Rushing to the hospital.
I saw it was actually Alexander lying in bed on an IV drip, his face pale.
Mrs. Thompson came up to apologize, “Olivia, I’m sorry, Mom tricked you.”
“But this foolish boy made himself bleed from his stomach, I had no choice but to trick you here first.”
I remained silent.
I should have known.
But I really hadn’t expected that Alexander would put aside his pride and ask his hated stepmother to be a mediator.
“As soon as I heard about this in another country, I flew back immediately.”
“I’m not asking you to forgive him, I just hope you’ll give him a chance to talk.”
“Can you two have a good conversation?”
Mrs. Thompson left.
Only Alexander remained on the bed, his eyes red, his gaze silently following me.
“Olivia, you know.” He said hoarsely.
“Lying here, I hate that damned self of mine so much…”
“How could I not have cherished you waiting for me at home every day, and not cherished every meal you made for me…”
His words were a bit broken and jumbled.
But I understood immediately.
Alexander had suffered from stomach problems since his student days.
So back then, even when there were cracks between us, even during cold wars, I still carefully prepared lunchboxes every day and had them delivered to the company, never failing.
But he never even gave them a second glance.
I shook off that trace of melancholy.
My voice as cold as ice, “Don’t say these things anymore.”
“It’s useless now.”
“Don’t go! Olivia!” Alexander hurriedly hugged me tightly from behind, as if wanting to meld me into his body.
On my neck, I seemed to feel hot tears falling.
I heard him begging in my ear, his voice tight.
“I really know I was wrong.
“I was confused before, I thought you were a pawn deliberately planted by that woman…”
“Later I was a bastard, thinking you would always be there waiting for me…”
“Now I reflect and repent every day.”
“I can accept all your punishments, all your hatred..”
“I can put aside all my pride, all my arrogance…”
“But divorce, I really can’t bear it…”
“Olivia, please, give me one more chance, okay?”
Suddenly, he ordered sternly to the outside, “Bring her in!”
