Chapter 6
After the divorce, my mom and I look care of my daughter, who had just come out of the incubator.
When she found out about the divorce, she desperately urged me to reconcile. She had her reasons.
“Men are like water, women are like fish.
No matter how strong a woman is, she needs a man to rely on.
Without a man, your world will be full of storms!”
I’ve had enough of listening to her, but Mom keeps trying to change my mind.
I firmly rejected her.
Her face darkened instantly, and she started cursing me with all kinds of nasty words.
“If I had known you’d be so ungrateful, I should have strangled you at birth!
Divorce is disgraceful!
Why don’t you just die? You’re an embarrassment!”
Mom’s outburst woke up my daughter, who I had just put to

I tried to soothe my daughter, wanting to argue back but stayed silent.
After my abusive father died, she faced life alone with strength.
Her frail back supported our shaky home, and she gritted her teeth to put me through college.
She relied on others emotionally
She faced a tough life and did her best.
But she still thinks she can’t live without a man.
She’s sick, but she doesn’t realize it. Instead, she wants me to follow her path.
Seeing me silent, Mom went berserk, smashing everything in the house. She threw out all my stuff and told me to get lost.
The sky gradually darkened.
light rain started to fall.
I wrapped my daughter tightly, afraid she’d get wet.
At that moment, I hated Mom deeply.
I wanted to cut ties with her immediately.

Her love for me, neither too much nor too little, was just enough to make my life miserable.
I found a new place and raised my daughter alone.
I’m a new mom. Changing diapers and giving baths, I’m not very skilled.
Sometimes I hurt you, and you’d just pout and whimper a bit.
Then you’d turn and smile at me.
In that moment, it felt like you were saying, “Silly Mom!
I’ll wait for you, just like you waited for me to grow up.”
Later, on a hot, ordinary summer afternoon…
When I was making your formula, you were flailing your arms and legs, babbling something.
Suddenly, you clearly said, “Mom.”
My heart felt like it was hit by something soft.
Tears welled up like a tidal wave.
When my daughter turned six months old, Arthur’s daughter was born too.
