No matter how many times he dialed, the only sound that came from the phone was that mechanical female voice saying, “I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later!”
He was so anxious that he couldn’t stand steadily. Still not fully recovered, he felt dizzy and fell to the ground.
Auntie rushed over to help him when she heard the noise. He anxiously asked, “Auntie, did Marlene come back after she went out this morning? Did she say where she was going and when she would be back? I’ve been trying to call her but couldn’t reach her.”
Auntie then exclaimed, turned around and took a box. “Ms. Castillo’s phone is here. She said she won’t be coming back for lunch or dinner today when she went out in the morning. She’s going to have a gathering with her friends. The phone was brought by Ms. Castillo’s friend this afternoon, who said that the young lady left her phone at her place.”
Brennan took the box and opened it, and inside was Marlene’s phone.
He wanted to turn on his phone and find his friend’s contact information, but he discovered that the phone had run out of battery.
After fully charging, he quickly opened the address book, but there was not a single contact in it.
Luckily, when I opened WhatsApp, I found that good girlfriend she used to mention frequently before, and there were a few unread messages from this friend on the page.
