I didn’t bother healing myself after that night.
I even cry secretly in the restroom where Lucien visited me after my work the next. day.
Days passed like hours and I didn’t even notice it’s the end of the month.
“The pack hospital’s offering me a chance to work abroad?” I swallowed, repeating Francis‘ s words. “This news…it’s great!”
“Yes, Blake, we are. A hospital there needs an assistant director and I couldn’t think of anyone else to send other than you,” Francis declared, his warm smile is always a delicious coffee to my lazy days. “We thought it might help in your road to healing yourself after your…you know. After you and Alpha Lucien.”
“I heard the Foghounds Pack boasts a lot

of perfect places to have a vacation!”
“Yes,” he said, “consider it as both a work and a vacation. Don’t worry, your workload there is lighter so that you can also focus on learning the ways of being an assistant director of a pack hospital. You will still attend weekly classes since being a pack healer is a never–ending cycle of learning and applying.“.
Excitement bathed me like a cold morning.
shower on a winter weekend. Hardwork
really pays off!
“I’ve been really impressed with your recent performance. You did not only work twice harder since we hired you, you also did not let your breakup distract your work,” he continued, propping his chin with his entwined hands. “Most would
drown their post–breakup in crying and drinking. Others will not even show up at work for days, even weeks. I didn’t think twice about putting your name forward as my primary candidate in the meeting with

other Healers yesterday.”
I clapped my hands and threw my arms around his neck, “Thank you, Francis!”
“You accept?” his eyes darkened to worry. I know why he asked that.
“Of course I do!” I maintained my cheerfulness. If it was the past me, I would have hesitated. Now that I no longer have a burden to worry, I jumped right to the opportunity.
It’s really nice to be back being single after all.
“I’m taking the offer, Francis. You know that,” I nudged him in the elbow.
“There’s no way I’m letting such an amazing opportunity just pass me by.”
My confidence was glowing. My health might not be that glowing thanks to my consistent amount of crying since…
I sighed. I’m not going to cry over him again.

True to my words, a tear fell from my eye.
Francis saw it.
“Tears of joy!” I cheerfully told him. I convinced myself it was.
Lucien is no longer my problem. He’s already Charm‘ s dilemma.
“Alright then. You’ll be flying to the Foghounds pack two weeks from now.”
Finally, in two weeks, I can finally start a new life–away from the Brightheart Pack, away from the drama, and most especially, away from Alpha Lucien.

I came knocking in my parents‘ house unexpectedly, holding a bottle of wine as they opened the door.
What I’m about to tell them is worth the celebration.
As I expected, they supported my choice to pursue work abroad.

you
“I don‘ t object to you going, Ves, but should talk it over with the Alpha,” my mom advised as she cut her steak in half. “Never make a decision you’ll regret after.”
“I told you many times, mom. We‘ ve already broken up. I’ve been single for almost two or three months now, I can’t remember.”
“I thought those were just rumors?” my dad arched his brow. “Did he cheat on you? Did you open up first about breaking up or did he dump you first? Tell me, Vesta!”
“Dad, calm down!” I urged him to not break the plate of roasted chicken in half. “You too, Mom. Both of you, relax. I was the one who ended the relationship first.”
Because he loved someone else.
I shook my head and just pursed my lips together. “I don‘ t see him as a husband. Yes, we’re mates but…I don’t see a

future for us. Besides, he has other priorities like–like the Brightheart Pack!”
I almost reveal that Charmaine, the oldest and richest Beta‘ s daughter, is his priority.
“That’s nonsense!” Mom tossed father a look that only both of them knew. “Your father and I have only had our mating bond snapped after our marriage and found out I’m pregnant with you.”
“Your mother is right, Ves,” Dad pressed on, “Talk to Lucien. Perhaps he didn’t fully acknowledge your breakup yet. Perhaps you just broke up with him in a whine! It’s not too late yet.”
Memories from my college drifted before me: how I relentlessly pursued Lucien because of love at first sight, how I even asked my mother on how to win him over.
But those are just memories now.
And I…I become another person with Alpha Lucien. I didn’t really become comfortable being me, as Vesta Blake only,

around him.
Instead, I became Vesta Blake, the Alpha of the Brightheart Pack‘ s girlfriend, for him.
“I’m done with him, Mom. Dad. He‘ s just a part of my past now, nothing more.” I made myself busy on my own plate of steak and fries, meals that we rarely eat only when we were celebrating.
It looks like we‘ re more celebrating my breakup with Lucien rather than my promotion in working abroad!
“Then we can’t do anything but support. you, Ves.” My Dad squeezed my hand. He’s always the doting one. “At least our family now has an official pack healer!”
“And an assistant director to a pack hospital!” Mom cheered. “Your father and I may be just Omegas living in a simple cozy home, but we have each other,” Mom squeezed Dad‘ s other hand. “We love
you, Vesta. You knew that.”
“I know.”

And I have long accepted it.
Dinner eventually came to an end after a couple of chitchats and gossips from my dad. He’s more talented in that field, I
mused.
I strode to my old room, the lavender and white wallpaper remained intact as if I had never left this place.
When I opened my laptop and logged in my social media account to do some research about the Foghounds Pack, hundreds of notifications bombarded my inbox.
It’s been a long time since I left social media. I had expected some messages from

random people after my breakup, but not
almost a thousand of them!
With bewildered eyes and trembling fingers, I clicked on the notifications and quickly realized why the messages were brimming with it. I’d been tagged in a post by Alpha Lucien, particularly his official team in charge of announcements.
My phone rang and I almost fell from my
chair.
“Francis?” I scowled at his very late night
text message.
“Vesta Blake, check the video the Alpha has posted. Update me with your decision to work abroad as soon as possible, more conveniently by tomorrow!”
