Chapter 6
I went home to my apartment that day with a heavy heart and a slightly red fist from my table–slamming.
Even with my begging on the phone, I know he wouldn’t listen to me. He still wants to keep me like some spare pet.
I took a nice cool shower to rinse off today’s drama and finished my studying for the day about how to stitch deep wounds.
As I plopped down my bed, I glanced at the ceiling. I may not see the stars but I can feel the moon.
“What will I do, Moon Goddess?” I found myself whispering, praying, on what to do with Lucien. We‘ re mates, yes. But there’s no longer love binding us. What Lucien does is he’s just obsessed over the fact that an Omega like me finally chose to leave him–and it hurts his pride.

He thought that I might be just an Omega. and he’s an Alpha that I will stomach him forever, that I will endure him forever.
I will not. I will certainly not.
Enough is enough.

My work the next day ended up smooth. No. calls throughout my working hours, even in my coffee breaks and lunch breaks.
Five in the afternoon and the light of day began to fade, slowly replaced by the shades of early night.
I blindly reached for my phone to turn off airplane mode.
My eyes scanned the nurse station. Shadows shrouded with only one blinking light on the end of the hallway and the other light was near the elevator on the other end.
The emptiness and the quietude around was unsettling. I can hear my heartbeat, I

can hear the sound of Lucien and Charm and Thomas laughing-
I shook off that heavy feeling, that haunting stillness that reminded me of why my pack hospital’s director and the Head of Healers, Francis, always urged me to go home immediately.
Because silence brings painful memories.
I entered the elevator when my phone rang. I gritted my teeth and hissed, “Oh shut up, Lucien!”
But when I glimpsed at the screen, it wasn‘ t Lucien‘ s name across the display.
Why would Beta Thomas call the Alpha‘ s ex–girlfriend?
Curiosity possessed me and I swiped right
to answer.
“Vesta! Thank the Moon Goddess you finally answered!” Thomas‘ s usual jolly voice pierced my ears. “Where are you? We’ve been waiting for you in the

restaurant since four!”
“What? What restaurant? Why?” I bombarded him with questions. “Waiting for me for what?”
“What do you mean ‘for what,‘ Ves?” The Beta‘ s tone was both impatient and puzzled. “You and Alpha Lucien invited us out to dinner here as soon as the Feast of the Rose Moon ended, remember?”
“What? I never said that-”
But Beta Thomas already cut me off before I could ask more. A new message notification appeared under his name and I found an address and a VIP room number.

I also found that Lucien messaged me a day ago. “You walked out all of a sudden on that beachside dinner, babe. Let’s invite both of them to make up for your sudden departure.”
A low snarl escaped my chest, my wolf furious. The thought of Charmaine and Lucien together in the Starmoon
Restaurant. They haunted me, their laughter wrapped around my mind to the
brink of mindness.
But what if this is the Moon Goddess‘ sign of paving a way to a better future?
I will let this dinner be the time I will voice out my feelings and truthfully announce. my breakup with Lucien right in front of the two most important people in his life.
If I did this right tonight, maybe the Alpha will finally leave me for good and will finally stop chasing after me.
It was time to set things straight after days and days of crying and being hurt.

I extended a hand to call for a taxi. On the way to the Starmoon Restaurant, I sighed with relief that after all this time, I could finally be free from them and they could all be free of my unimportant existence.
I stared at the Starmoon Restaurant for a
few heartbeats.
I just realized I ended my relationship here with Lucien on the very day we were celebrating our love.
I suppose there was never love between us. It was only me who used to be head over heels on him. Now, I’m head over heels in leaving him and building a better life.
without him.
Taking a deep breath, I began searching for room number four.
“This Vesta…who does she think she is to just walk out like that?” I froze, my hand hovering just above the handle of the VIP room. That obvious always–cheerful tone

belonged to the Beta. “If she weren’t the Alpha s girlfriend, I would’ve blacklisted her from the Brightheart Pack with all the connections I have. I don‘ t care if she goes Rogue,” Thomas‘ s voice flitted through the door, sending my back straight.
“Not now, Tom.” Charm drawled, “Vesta isn’t just someone. She s Lucien‘ s lover and girlfriend. You don’t know when you’ll open your eyes one day and she’s already our pack‘ s Luna.”
The Beta’s voice broke through the chill slithering in my skin. “Whatever. In my eyes, you‘ re still the best match for our Alpha. If our pack is going to have a Luna, it should be someone as strong and elegant
as you.
I stepped back, the weight of his words. sinking in.
My back hit a wall of hard muscles. “What are you waiting there, Vesta? Go on in. We’ve been waiting for you.”

I whipped around. I glared at him with a fury that could bring down the sky. “You want me to go in? Why should I? I never invited them to dinner. That was all you.”
“Vesta, please. Let’s not do this again…
I heard the door open behind me and I didn’t need to whirl around to know it was
Thomas and Charmaine.

I snapped my gaze to both of them. The Beta blinked, unable to decide if he should jump right in front of his Alpha or remain on Charm’s side.
Charmaine, on the other hand, quickly suppressed the grin on her face from spreading and the sparkling of amusement on her eyes.
I bared my teeth at the two. I heard Lucien cursing under his breath. My growl sent my claws retracting from my fingers before. I could stop it. My wolf will tear these two to pieces. Moon Goddess be damned.
Beta Thomas stepped forward, his body

blocking my path to Charmaine- instinctively shielding Charm as if she was a fragile Luna.
“You‘ re a two–timing bastard, Lucien.” Then my palm slapped Alpha Lucien of the Brightheart Pack‘ s handsome face.
