Chapter 10
I don’t know if I should laugh or scream at them or call my uncle to remove them from my sight. Perhaps all of those.
I was around sixteen when Grandma Reid, her son who was still the Alpha, sent me a letter that my mother agreed to a marriage alliance. After all, it was the Crystal Tears Pack who helped my mother and our pack when my father suddenly died of a heart attack.
I replied and told her I cannot leave the Zane twins behind. They are my lifeblood, my world. My home.
I told her I will fulfill my dream of marrying for love even if her grandson happened to be my mate. The pack elder told me earlier that Xaden found out about my answer. Still, he was willing to wait for me despite other pack Alphas offering their sisters and daughters and nieces for his hand in marriage.

I don‘ t know why. I never managed to ask Xaden yet. Maybe, he did it out of respect for his grandmother, maybe it was good for the pack, or maybe it was fate. But whatever his real reason was, he was the only one who consistently, without wavering, chose me.
“From the beginning to the end, he only picked me,” I told them. “Unlike both of you who only chose me at first but eventually changed when Lucille came.”
Xavier stood and scoffed. “So this is where it all came down then, you married him because you’re jealous of Lucille?”
“It’s not my jealousy,” I growled. “It‘ s her who’s jealous!”
Xeus stood from where he’s kneeling too.
“We’ve known each other for twenty years, Louise. Lucille could never replace you. You should already know that there will always be a place for you to take at the Zane Family’s table.”

Xeus was in deep thoughts. Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed my hand and I staggered back. “Don’t ruin your life just because you’re angry, Lou. Come home. with us. Let me explain everything to my father so we can clear this up.
As soon as the words fell from his mouth, he went flying to the other side of the room. Xavier whirled around and was
thrown across his brother before he could say anything.
Before I could react to his swift kicking of Xeus and punching of Xavier, I felt someone’s arm wrap around me and pulled me close. A soft scent of rosewood and lilac drifted over me and calmed my raging heart.
“That‘ s for beating my mate in your pack’s hospital,” he snarled, the sound shaking the ground.
The twins knew they cannot contend with an Alpha. Although their father hasn’t yet informed which of them is the heir to their

father’s title, they are still weaker than
Xaden.
Xaden faced me again. He was more handsome than the last time I saw him. He looked happier and more glowing too. “The Luna of the Crystal Tears Pack
doesn’t need to entertain leftovers from a Beta’s daughter,” he said with a low and vicious voice. And by Beta’s daughter he meant Lucille.
Xaden squeezed my hand as if to ask if I was alright. I tightened my grip on him as I looked at the Zane twins.
“Did you hear him? I have my own family now, my own life. My world no longer revolves around yours, nor waiting for whatever leftovers you decide to offer.” I looked at Xeus, who’s back seemed to crack at my mate‘ s kick earlier. “I’m not doing this because I’m angry. I really want to spend the rest of my life with him.”
There was a time I questioned why it was so easy for someone else to come into the

picture and snatch the first place that previously belonged to another. However, I came to realize that the person who really loved you would never let you go and wait for him forever.
Those twenty years taught me several things. It has become a two–decade long of memories, of heartaches, of lessons. Xavier and Xeus were willing to abandon me, the girl they had known for twenty years for Lucille, the girl they had known for barely two or three months.
Their eyes widened, as if they just realized how much of a fool they are. How Lucille fooled them and manipulated them.
I don‘ t have to cling to the past when I can welcome the present with wide open
arms.
As soon as Xaden heard my words, he smiled and slid a huge dazzling diamond ring onto my hand. It was even bigger than the ones that the Zane brothers gave
Lucille, even if the two were combined.

Its sparkle was bright enough to dim the light of the Blood Ruby Pack’s heirs.
I can taste the regret and smell the pain on their faces. Xavier barked, “Louise, are you really throwing away twenty years of relationship just for the Reid family‘ s power and wealth? I never thought you were so materialistic and easily tempted.”
I laughed. “Tempted?” I waved a hand to myself. “Perhaps you should know that word first applied to both of you.”
“Louise,” Xeus begged.
I jerked my chin to him. “I never care about wealth or status. All I ever wanted was true love. But what did I just get? A harsh slap from you and a brutal beating from Xavier that almost broke my already- injured leg.”
They did not even have an inkling that the Black Family had made a comeback. That my uncle and my mother and me are reunited and the Dark Tide Pack is back in

the game. They did not know that my mother had paid back every cent the Zane Family had spent on me and even talked to their Alpha. They did not realize that all the debt between us had long been settled. ‘We owe them nothing anymore,‘ my wolf mused.
Ever since Lucille whisked them away from me, Xeus and Xavier knew the
consequences of throwing all their
attention to her. While they were treating me like I was still a helpless and fatherless. girl, a freeloader, everybody knew what malice they‘ ve done. Apparently, Grandma Reid and Xaden have a spy on the Zane mansion so they definitely knew all the verbal, emotional, and physical abuse I’m going through.
But now with Xaden by my side, I did not have to bear it any longer. I ordered the Alpha‘ s guards to drag the Zane twins out. My uncle even appeared, tossing a smirk to the twins.

“Louise, you can’t do this to us!” Xavier
bellowed.
But I smirked; I have long wanted to smirk down at them. “Oh, I already did.”
