I followed him outside. As Danielle was thrown out and fell awkwardly to the ground, I approached him. “Still holding on, brother?”
With mom not present, he no longer bothered pretending. His eyes were filled with jealousy and resentment as he looked at me. “Why, when we are both mom’s children, does she favor you so much?”
“It’s always been that way. Whenever you cried, it was because I, as the brother, didn’t take good care of my sister.” Danielle’s eyes were bloodshot. “Before you were born, mom’s focus was entirely on me. After you were born, she was only busy taking care of you.”
I understood. In his eyes, I had always been the rival, competing with him for maternal love and resources. “That’s why I asked mom to adopt Bella, deliberately favoring her and indulging her.”
“Did you know? Every time I saw you being framed and unable to defend yourself, I was thrilled!” I was stunned. No wonder Bella’s poor lies often succeeded. He was intentionally using this to suppress and retaliate against me.
“Too bad. Both mom and I have been reborn. You played with fire and got burned. My brother’s face turned pale instantly, his eyes widened. “What did you say? Reborn? You too, how is that possible…”
“It’s because we were reborn that we won’t be fooled by you and Bella again. In our past lives, you guys caused me to lose everything, and mom died of illness because of you. In this life, your schemes won’t succeed.”
Danielle staggered back a few steps, as if all his strength had been drained. “No, this can’t be true… I just wanted mom to pay more attention
to me, I didn’t want you to take everything…”
“You were wrong, brother. I never intended to take anything from you. It was your jealousy and narrow–mindedness that led you down this path
of no return.”
I took a deep breath. “In this life, I’ll protect mom and the company well, and you will pay for what you’ve done.” With that, I turned to leave.
After taking a few steps, I heard my brother’s desperate scream from behind, “I won’t just let it go!”
In the days that followed, Danielle seemed to have gone mad. He looked everywhere for opportunities to regain what he believed was rightfully his. He tried to win over some shareholders with lies and false promises to gain their support. But mom stepped in, publicly stating that Danielle would no longer be involved in company affairs. After learning the truth, those shareholders all chose to support me.
My brother lost completely. Without my brother’s protection, Bella also began to show her true, more hideous nature. Unwilling to lose her wealthy lifestyle, she ended up becoming the mistress of a wealthy man with a wife and kids.
I ran into her at an event. At that time, she was holding onto the arm of a middle–aged man. She noticed me too. Her eyes showed a flicker of
panic, but she quickly put on a façade of calm. “Oh, isn’t this my dear sister? What, here to laugh at me?”
“You think too highly of yourself. I’m here for business.”
She snorted. “I ended up like this because of you. If it weren’t for you, how would I have lost everything?”
My eyes were full of disdain as I picked up my wine glass to leave. The middle–aged man beside Bella noticed the tense atmosphere and asked, displeased, “Bella, who is this?”
Bella quickly put on a flattering smile. “Darling, this is the sister I’ve told you about who bullies me everywhere.”
The man looked me up and down, then slapped Bella. “How dare you be rude to Miss Alice? Apologize!”
