I chuckled to myself, my brother’s antics were truly baffling.
Instead of using his own share or asking mom to divide it equally among us, he wanted to take half of mine to give to Bella.
He met my sarcastic stare.
“As the eldest and the future head of the company, I obviously need a larger share. You girls should be content with what you have and not be greedy.”
“Moreover, mom, if you distribute half of your shares, I won’t have the absolute control necessary in the company. You shouldn’t give too much to Alice.”
Mom slammed the table with force.
The dishes and cutlery on the table clattered from the impact.
“Danielle, you have truly let me down!”
“Mom, I’m doing this for the good of the company and our family’s future. Alice doesn’t understand any of this, giving her so many shares is pointless. It’s better to secure Bella’s future.”
“Secure?” I laughed bitterly, “Bella has lived a life of luxury in our home for years. Isn’t that security enough? And what about me? I’m the one who’s been wronged and slandered repeatedly. Now you want my shares too?”
Tears filled my eyes as I glared at my brother.
The once dependable relative from my youth now seemed so alien and greedy.
Bella stood nearby, feigning innocence, lightly tugging at my brother’s sleeve.
“Brother, forget it. I don’t want my sister’s shares. Just let me stay in this family.”
But I caught the fleeting dissatisfaction in her eyes.
“Stop pretending to be so virtuous!” I shouted at her, “All the things you’ve done over the years, don’t think I’m unaware. You act pitiful in front of mom, you’re a complete fraud!”
Mom took a deep breath, striving to stay calm.
“Danielle, from today, you are no longer the heir to the company, nor my son. Don’t call me mom anymore.”
“As for Bella, she has no blood relation to our family. It’s generous enough that she’s lived with us for so long. I’ll have a lawyer reassess the property distribution.”
Hearing mom’s words, my brother turned pale.
“Mom, you can’t do this! I’m your son, the company belongs to me. How can you hand it over to Alice? She’ll eventually get married!”
Bella panicked, crying and kneeling before mom.
“Mom, it’s always been my sister bullying me. My brother is just protecting me. You can’t be so unjust.”
I laughed bitterly, “Bella, when will you stop pretending?”
I flung out a pile of documents, all evidence of Bella bullying classmates at school and inciting others to bully me.

“Brother, it’s not like that, sister is framing me.”
But my brother couldn’t even be bothered to look, assuming I was slandering Bella.
He grabbed Bella’s hand.
“Hmph, if you can’t accept Bella, I’ll leave with her.”
He thought mom was merely angry and would never sever ties with her son.
But he didn’t realize mom had seen through him and Bella.
“My biggest regret now is adopting Bella. Danielle, do you remember how you promised to take care of Alice?”
My brother’s gaze flickered as if lost in memories.
But now, he’s straying further down the wrong path of family loyalty.
