“Arya, that j*rk really seems like he still loves you. Every time I go out these past few days, I see him waiting on the street, and a few times, he even tried to sneak over the wall to get in. When the security guard found him, he was bleeding all over, cut by the broken glass on the
wall…”
Noah said all this, and I had seen it myself.
He didn’t seem to mind the pain, climbing over again and again.
But so what?
Even if his blood drained, my life wouldn’t come back.
“Maybe he feels guilty for the way I treated him.”
Noah thought for a moment, then said seriously, “Let him feel guilty for the rest of his life.
Don’t ever forgive him!”
I smiled faintly.
He wouldn’t feel guilty for that long.
The day I found out Thomas had bought a house for Ruby, I went over to check it out.
Ruby had already moved in, and Thomas had brought some friends over to celebrate.
Through the window, I saw them sharing a passionate kiss and hug. The adoration in his eyes was like something solid, a love I’d never had.
His friends were also congratulating them.
“Thomas, you and Ruby have been apart for seven years. It’s so great that you two are finally together again.”
I stood there in the suffocating dark for hours.
Their hands never let go, not for a second.
How did I not know how much he cared for Ruby?
When he lost her, it was me who helped him through.
It made sense that after losing me, he could get by with Ruby.
“It doesn’t matter anymore.”
I said quietly.
I just wanted to live the last days of my life peacefully, without caring about who Thomas
was with or whether he was happy.
Winter came quickly, and so did the end of my life.
The first snow of the year arrived unusually early. When I woke up, the world outside was
vered in white.
Before I could really take it in Duby suddenly stormed in.

Before I could really take it in, Ruby suddenly stormed in.
She gritted her teeth, her face twisted with rage, like she wanted to tear me apart.
“Arya, you old, ugly, nearly–dead woman, what kind of magic do you have? Why is Thomas willing to throw me away for you?”
I froze for a moment, and my first thought was that Ruby was acting on Thomas‘ orders, putting on a show in front of me.
“Did Thomas send you? Tell him not to waste his time. I don’t care about what’s going on between you two, and I won’t see him.”
Ruby rubbed her swollen eyes, hysterical. “Stop pretending! You must’ve played some tricks to make Thomas turn his back on me, to take back the house and all the gifts he gave me! Do you know that I gave up a rich ex–husband just to come back and find Thomas? Do you know how hard I’ve worked these past two years, pretending to be someone I’m not? I was so close to
earing you down… and now you’re taking him back?”
Ruby got more and more worked up, and by the end, she collapsed on the floor, sobbing
uncontrollably.
“Arya, I’m begging you, please, give Thomas back to me! These past few years, no matter how much I’ve racked up on my credit cards, Thomas always paid it off. But now, he doesn’t care about me anymore, and I’m drowning in debt. I have nowhere to turn…”
Watching Ruby break down and cry, I finally believed it; Thomas really had let her go.
As she left, she was laughing and crying, her mind clearly lost, like she’d lost her soul.
I couldn’t help but glance out the window toward Thomas, still waiting on the street outside. I
sighed.
“What’s the point? You didn’t cherish my love before, now… What does it even mean?”
In my final moments, Thomas somehow found a chance and snuck in once more.
The temperature was below freezing, yet he was still wearing a fall suit, his lips pale from
the cold, looking messy and disheveled, like some homeless man. One might think he was just
another stray.
But his eyes, those eyes, still carried a hint of who he once was.
“Forget it, let me talk to him for a bit,” I said.
I had softened, stopping Noah from kicking Thomas out.
“Do you remember, Arya? When I saved you, when we confirmed our relationship, and when. we got married? You told me back then that you’d be with me forever. How can you go back on your word? Are you still angry because I got too close to Ruby? Arya, I swear to you, I’d give you my heart if I could. She left me back then, and you stayed with me for seven years. How could she ever mean more to me than you? I just wanted to make up for the regret from back then. So, Arya… please, forgive me. Let me walk with you until the very end.”
I wasn’t sure if it was his illness or if I just couldn’t see clearly anymore, but I felt like the Ic Thomas‘ eyes now was even stronger than when he looked at Ruby.
But no matter what, it was too late.
“Thomas, look ahead. I did give you chances. But now, it’s too late to fix this.”
The day I left, Noah stayed by my side, his voice choked with emotion.
“Thomas stayed here with you. He hasn’t been taking care of the company. It’s gone
bankrupt. During this time, his legs got frostbite, and he ended up in the hospital. I heard his mental state isn’t good either…”
I closed my eyes.
“Let him be.”
It was time for me to let go.
None of this mattered to me anymore.
