“That would be letting them off too easily. Since they have disgusted me like this, I must give them a proper response,” I said.
Lay off the true heiress and make room for the fake one. The ex–boyfriend had a taste of his own medicine.
I specifically asked Jean to investigate Lola, and it turned out she was just the mistress. of one of the shareholders from my former company, which explained her sudden appearance there.
As for being interested in Jeremy, it was
- because she wanted to find a new, young, and promising financial backer. Jean also mentioned that she discovered Lola had gone to the hospital for a checkup and was pregnant, but based on the timing, it was unlikely to be Jeremy’s.
For the time being, I decided not to pay further attention to the rumors circulating

online. Once the situation was resolved, the rumors would naturally dissipate on their own.
However, I didn’t expect that some of the employees I used to lead would be indignant on my behalf.
“Yvonne, it was you who worked overtime every day and developed strategies to secure those contracts. The things being said online are all nonsense,” Madison said.
“After you left, Lola was promoted to supervisor. She’s so smug now, but she doesn’t know how to do anything. All she does is boss us around, and when contracts can’t be secured, she blames us,” one of the colleagues complained.
“That’s right. She even lost several of the clients you used to handle, resulting in the loss of several major contracts. I heard that Mr. Lawson has been extremely anxious and frustrated lately, as he personally couldn’t salvage those client relationships,” another echoed.

“We wanted to speak up for you online, but we were threatened that if anyone dared to do so, they would be fired if caught.”
I could understand their difficulties.
The current economic situation was tough, and everyone had their own hardships.
Especially for Madison, she had the most. grievances toward Lola. But there were reasons behind it.
She was a fresh graduate when she joined, young and eager to learn, and conducted herself with grace and charm.
Lola always enjoyed deliberately mocking Madison whenever she saw the latter being popular in the office. She would assign tasks to Madison that were far beyond her capabilities as a recent graduate.
As a result, Madison made several mistakes and almost got fired.
I intervened and personally mentored Madison, guiding her step by step.

Chapter 4
Jeremy and Lola spread rumors about my professional conduct, not only to deliberately disgust me but also to make it difficult for me to find a new job. Unfortunately, their plan backfired.
Jeremy was well aware of my abilities at work. After laying me off, he didn’t want me to join a rival company either. Looking back, I now realize that he had already shown signs of playing such tricks.
Now that he had found his so–called backing, he treated me like trash and kicked me out.
“Yvonne, what are you going to do now?”
