The day after Karen and Levi were killed, Alan returned to the precinct with a breakthrough after a sleepless night.
“On the day of Vinnie’s disappearance, Karen was seen outside her kindergarten.”
That day. Marvin was supposed to pick up Vinnie, but Karen had leveraged her influence to force Marvin to meet her at Levi’s company instead.
At the time, Marvin’s branch office was collaborating with Levi. Not wanting to jeopardize the partnership, Marvin reluctantly asked me to pick Vinnie up.
When I called her teacher to confirm, they told me Vinnie had already left
The kindergarten was only a three walk from our neighborhood, so I didn’t think much of it and drove home.
But Vinnie never came back. She vanished.
Meanwhile, Marvin couldn’t find Karen at Levi’s company either.
As panic consumed us, Karen called.
“Well, Terra,” she said, “do you want your daughter back? Then divorce Marvin, and I’ll let her go! You’re just a washed–up old hag. What right do you have to be with Marvin? Know your place and get lost!”
Karen had intercepted Vinnie on her way home and abducted her.
On the other end of the line, I heard a sharp slap, followed by Vinnie’s heart–wrenching cries.
“Mommy… it hurts!”
Marvin was enraged. “Karen, are you insane? Let my daughter go!”
Perhaps Karen hadn’t expected Marvin to be there. His furious outburst left her momentarily stunned. She stammered, “Fine,
fine. I let her go. She’s just a kid. When we get married, Fill give you another one, Marvin, I really like you now. I’ve been chasing you for so long. Can’t you give me a chance to be happy? If you marry me, my dad will fully support you. Your career will skyrocket, and you’ll have a perfect family Isn’t that great?”
At the time, I couldn’t comprehend Karen’s twisted logic. Without her interference, we would have been far happler.
With her status, she could easily have pursued someone more accomplished than Marvin.
But now I understood. She just couldn’t stand it.
She couldn’t accept that someone who once idolized and adored her had moved on, married someone else, and started a
family.
She couldn’t understand why Marvin would reject her, a woman who had both beauty and status in abundance.
But people could change. No one would revolve around another forever.
Karen did eventually release Vinnie. After her disappearance, Karen even presented surveillance footage as proof of her
Innocence.
In the footage, Karen’s bodyguards escorted Vinnie to the base of a mountain near Karen’s villa. That was the last time Vinnie
was seen alive.
Alan’s new lead shifted the investigation toward Karen’s villa.
The household staff were still there, and they remembered that little girl from three years ago.
The eldest housekeeper was brought in to give a statement.
“The child kept crying,” the housekeeper recounted. “Ms. Boltery found it annoying and gagged her with a floor rag. She kicked Ms. Boltery in retaliation, which drove her mad, and she kicked that kid to the ground.”
I vividly recalled the bruises on Vinnie’s swollen legs, which had been soaked in river water. The marks were the exact size of
a shoeprint.
Vinnie was only five years old!
And yet Karen had the cruelty to treat her with such violence.
Because of her, my daughter suffered unspeakable torment.
Hatred surged within me. If I could, I’d drag Karen out of her grave and whip her corpse!
Mandy was also present during the investigation. Aware that Marvin’s crimes were rooted in vengeance, he worked tirelessly

For two days, they pushed themselves to the brink, revisiting the kindergarten, reviewing surveillance footage, and leaving not
stone unturned to bring clarity to the case.
If someone other than Peter had handled the original investigation, perhaps justice would have found us long ago.
