Chapter 20
Lucille had assumed Flint would do the same as her father. That man would point a finger at her and scold her, calling her ill- mannered and accusing her of being harsh and mean.
After all, Flint had grown to despise her for the past year. He was restrained by Jacob and unable to act against her as he wished. When the chance finally presents itself, surely this man won’t miss the opportunity to belittle her.
What she hadn’t expected was that Flint would actually stand by her side, defending her.
If she was shocked, the family of three across from her was downright stunned.
They had thought one shameless person was bad enough, but now they were faced with someone even more shameless.
“F… Flint … you … you also think I’m a burden?”
Oriel’s eyes turned red for real.
She didn’t care much about Lucille’s words. After all, Lucille was just a wretched girl who’d lost her mother in her eyes.
Gary would kick that wretch out as soon as he gained complete control of Stuart Group.
However, Flint’s opinion mattered to her.
She didn’t want him to view her as a burden or a laughingstock.
Flint retracted his gaze and stopped paying attention to Oriel.
When his most cherished daughter fell into such a state, Gary’s heart ached. He naturally grew frustrated at Flint for embarrassing his precious girl in such a manner.
Oriel was born prematurely and has always been frail, with a congenital heart defect.
To protect his reputation, he had labeled her as an illegitimate child for years, preventing her from rightfully claiming her status as his daughter. Gary had always felt guilty about her.
Gary felt more pain when someone wronged Oriel than when he took a good beating.
“Flint, no matter what, Ori is still your sister–in–law. How could you say something like that?”
The faint smile on Flint’s lips disappeared completely. He narrowed his eyes, and his gaze bore into Gary. It made Gary suddenly feel an invisible yet overwhelming pressure coming right at him.
His aura was immediately subdued.
“Are you blaming me for siding with my wife against my sister–in–law?”
The question caught Gary off guard.
When his gaze met the dark look in Flint’s eyes, a sense of fear involuntarily crept into his heart.
Flint shifted his posture. His tall frame lazily reclined back into the sofa, and his arm draped over the back behind Lucille. It gave
the impression that he was resting his hand on her shoulder. The gesture appeared intimate.
“If I were to side with my sister–in–law against my wife, wouldn’t that give you reason to worry?”
Flint’s voice was melodious yet commanding. Even though he wore a smile, those facing him couldn’t muster a grin.
“Or … do you prefer that I help my sister–in–law bully my wife?”
When Flint uttered these words, there wasn’t a hint of anger in his tone. Despite this, the trio was stunned by the implications.
Gary’s brows twitched in response.
Even though he genuinely wanted Flint to help Oriel teach Lucille a lesson, he couldn’t openly admit it.
“Flint, that’s not what I meant. It’s just that, don’t you think Lucy’s words were too harsh?”
Gary’s expression hardened. His displeasure was evident in his heart, though he dared not let it show on his face.
Flint turned to glance at the woman beside him. Lucille appeared completely indifferent. The look in his eyes darkened. “Is it harsh?”
