Chapter 12
Sebastian wouldn’t risk crossing a big boss who was obviously in a bad mood for the sake of a brainless fool.
He had expected that anyone who managed to get into the secretarial office would have at least a bit of intelligence. But as it turned out…
Ambition had only served to feed the appetites of these women until they overestimated their worth.
Sebastian glanced at Alicia without a trace of sympathy and delivered his final verdict. “You should resign voluntarily. If you force us to have security escort you out, you’ll lose the little dignity you have left.”
“Mr. Muller! Please, Mr. Muller!”
Alicia’s sobs echoed through the Ashworth Corporation’s lobby as she completely abandoned her image.
Not a single employee who witnessed this incident stepped forward to console her.
After all, nobody who had the right mind would dare associate with a woman who, after a mere two outings with the CEO, had begun to look down on everyone around her only to be discarded by the very man she thought had favored her.
Having dealt with Alicia, Sebastian hurried to the elevator.
The thought of his boss’s terrifying and gloomy expression just before going upstairs made him uneasy.
He couldn’t fathom why the lady of the house had suddenly become so eager to initiate a divorce. What puzzled him even more was that the person who had originally insisted on the divorce seemed downright unhappy when she was pressed to finalize it today.
Whenever Sebastian reached the upper floor, his phone started ringing.
Glancing at the screen, he was surprised to see it was Lucille calling.
In the past, Lucille occasionally rang him when she couldn’t reach Flint, but at this moment, a gut feeling warned him that this call was nothing but trouble.
As Sebastian hesitated, a secretary rushed over to him. “Mr. Muller, Mr. Ashworth wants to see you.”
“… Oh.”
Sebastian didn’t dare to answer Lucille’s call. Even as he entered the office, his phone continued to ring.
Flint’s eyes locked on the phone in Sebastian’s hand. The icy look in his gaze was enough to freeze a person on the spot.
Noticing the boss’s focus, Sebastian quickly stepped forward and offered up the phone, speaking in a low voice, “It’s … it’s a call from Mrs. Ashworth.”
Flint’s face remained impassive, his silence thickening the tension in the room. Sebastian, usually so confident in his understanding of the CEO’s moods, suddenly found himself at a loss.
“Sir, should I answer Mrs. Ashworth’s call?”
At that moment, Sebastian fully grasped the meaning of the phrase “serving a tyrant is like walking on thin ice“.
Flint raised his eyes to look at his assistant. The storm brewing in Flint’s eyes only intensified with each ring of the phone. “Answer it.”
“Yes, Sir.”
Sebastian tapped the answer button and switched it to hands–free function.
Lucille’s voice, laced with clear impatience, echoed from the other end.
“Mr. Muller, please inform Flint that my time isn’t something he can waste. If he’s too busy to finalize the divorce today, he better give me an exact time.”
“Uhm… Mrs. Ashworth…”
Sebastian hesitated, looking at Flint, who didn’t say a word. Carefully choosing his words, he responded, “Mrs. Ashworth, the CEO has some very important matters to handle today. Perhaps you could wait a bit longer? Once he’s done, I’ll make sure to ask him about it. What do you think?”
“Okay. But tell him to hurry up! Dragging out a divorce and whining, does he even call himself a man?”
Sebastian winced.

Flint’s expression noticeably turned stern.
In the next second, Flint snatched the phone from Sebastian’s hand. “Luci…”
Beep!
The line went dead before he could even finish his sentence.
Sebastian’s heart sank.
Seeing Flint’s face was now a shade darker than it had been moments ago, he felt as if his head was dangling by a thread.
Flint experienced the bitterness of having Lucille hang up on him for the first time. The anger that had been simmering in his chest now surged uncontrollably.
That d*mned woman! She had crossed the line this time!
