Chapter 6
“Do you even have a heart?”
I couldn’t help but laugh, furrowing my brow as I looked at him. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that? Antonio, do you even have a heart?
“Did you really forget what you said to me?”
He was rendered speechless by my response, opening and closing his mouth a few times before he said in a rush, “Gracie, whether you believe it or not, I really do regret it.
“I had a dream. In it, you forced my dad to make me marry you after you saved my life. At first, I was happy, but then James asked me to take care of Graycee, and things got complicated between us.
“Then you misunderstood us, and before I knew it, we started drifting apart. I treated you terribly… and even… killed you.
“I was filled with regret, developed severe mental issues, and eventually took my own life.
“But when I opened my eyes, I was back to the days before you left, so I did everything I could to keep you with me.” He pulled out a velvet box from his pocket, and inside was the diamond ring I had once lost.
“I was going to propose to you,” he said, his voice frantic. “I wanted to make up for everything I did to you.
“But you disappeared without a word. I’ve been searching for you for live years!”
Chapter 6
As he spoke. I suddenly realized that Antonio had also been reborn.
Suddenly, it all clicked. I understood why he reached out to me the night before I was about to leave, and why he seemed like a completely
different person.
I took a deep breath. “But Graycee’s pregnant. Are you really going to just abandon her and the child so easily… as the father?”
“Gracie, you’re wrong!” Antonio suddenly cut me off, his face desperate. “The baby inside Graycee isn’t mine. It’s James’s!
“The child in the dream was also James’s, and five years ago, that child was his too.
“James didn’t want to marry her, and they had a huge fight. He ran off abroad.
“When I heard Graycee was pregnant, he asked me to look after her for a bit, but I really feel nothing for her.”
From the look on Antonio’s face, I could tell he wasn’t lying.
But in the past, he did have feelings for Graycee. This time, however, he hadn’t had a chance to get involved with her before he was reborn.
I felt a strange sense of disorientation, like fate had played a cruel trick on
- US.
But what’s done is done. I had already made the decision to leave, and I had no intention of looking back. I wasn’t going to tell Antonio that I, too, had been given a second chance.
I gave him a cold smile. “Nice story.
“But even if that’s true, we can never go back.
“Antonio, stop trying to disrupt the peaceful life I have now ” With that, I turned to walk away.
But he suddenly let out a low laugh, and then asked, his voice heavy with sadness. “Are you this cold to me because of Oliver?”
I stopped but didn’t turn around.
“Even if it’s not because of him. I’ll still be cold to you from now on.
“Because the Grace who once cared for you? You’ve already lost her.”
As soon as I stepped through the door. I spotted Oliver in the kitchen, wearing an apron and busy cooking.
On the table, he’d already set out the dinner he’d prepared.
