Chapter 7
Bella’s POV
I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard. Mandy ordered him to kill me.
My body felt cold, like every ounce of anger I had been holding onto froze in place. I watched as Jacob stood there, stunned, his hands trembling. His anger was fading into something else now–shock, confusion, maybe even regret. But it didn’t matter. It was too late for that.
“Mandy… what?” Jacob‘ s voice was low, barely a whisper, like he couldn’t believe it either. “Why would she…?”
Marco shrugged, a smug smirk plastered on his face. “She knew you’d always pick her

over anyone else. Didn’t want some pregnant she–wolf standing in her way. So, yeah, she told me to make sure you’d never have to deal with Bella again. I hired a rogue to do it. Mandy faked her heat just to get you to her side while Bella was left to die.
I wanted to scream. That’s it? That’s all my life was worth to you? Just a simple order to be taken out like I was nothing? The betrayal was burning me up from the inside, but there was nothing I could do. I was stuck here, watching, waiting for Jacob to do something, anything.
For a moment, it looked like he was going to lose it. His fists clenched, and his jaw tightened as he took a step toward Marco.
“You… you killed her because Mandy told you to?”

“Yeah,” Marco sneered, leaning back in his chair like he didn’t have a care in the world.
“I didn’t think it’d be a big deal. You didn’t even care about her anyway, right? Mandy’s the one you love.”
Jacob flinched. I could see it–the guilt washing over him in waves. He knew it was true. He hadn‘ t cared. Not enough. He let me walk alone, pregnant, knowing full well the dangers out there. And now, he had to face the consequences.
“You‘ re staying here,” Jacob muttered, his voice low and vibrating with tension as he clamped Marco’s wrists to the table.
“You‘ re not going anywhere.”
Marco’s lips curved into a mocking smirk. “Really? You think you can keep me here?

You‘ re too scared to face what I’ve done
because you need me to keep your little secret safe-”
“Enough!” Jacob’s voice exploded, his alpha tone shaking the walls as he held Marco’s glare. Despite the rage, Marco laughed, smug, like he didn’t just admit to
murder.
Jacob’s hands clenched the edge of the table, his body rigid. I hovered in the background, watching him. He’d buried himself in this mess, made his choice long ago. I couldn’t pity him.
But then, as if things couldn’t get worse, the door creaked open. Mandy entered, eyes wide, her usual fake concern masking the fear lurking beneath. She‘ d clearly heard enough.

“Alpha,” she murmured softly, her voice laced with calculated innocence. “What’s going on? I heard noises.‘
Jacob stiffened, his gaze darting between her and Marco. The truth he’d been avoiding was dawning on him, but he wasn‘ t ready to face it–not yet.
“It‘ s… nothing, Mandy.” His voice was tight, holding onto composure by a thread.
“Nothing you need to worry about.”
But Mandy pressed on, stepping closer. “Are you sure? What did you two talked about?”
Jacob’s jaw tightened, but he said nothing. And then I saw it–the doubt flickering in his eyes as he looked at her, realizing, perhaps for the first time, that Mandy wasn’t who he thought she was.

Maybe, just maybe, he‘ d finally see the truth.
But no matter what, it was too late for him to
save me now.
“You don’t fucking care, Mandy.”
