Chapter 10
Bella‘ s POV
I stood there, unseen, watching the last pieces of Jacob’s world slip away. The pack gathered outside, and I noticed Lucas waiting by the edge of the clearing. His jaw was set, his eyes hard as he looked toward the house. Jacob must have sensed it, too, because he pushed himself up and walked outside, his expression a mix of anger and exhaustion.
“Lucas,” Jacob called out, his voice rough. Lucas didn’t respond right away, just crossed his arms, watching Jacob with a cold, unwavering stare. “You shouldn’t be here. anymore, Jacob,” he said, his tone firm.
Jacob clenched his fists. “I’m still part of

this pack. I built this place with you. You can’t just throw me out.”
Lucas‘ s face darkened, and he took a step closer. “Throw you out?” he spat. “You don’t get it, do you? You lost that right the second you chose her–chose Mandy–over Bella.”
Jacob’s eyes flickered with guilt, but he tried to hold his ground. “You know nothing, Lucas. You don‘ t understand what it’s like to lead, to make impossible choices.

Lucas scoffed, his voice laced with disgust.
“Is that what you tell yourself? That this was just an impossible choice? Bella wasn’t just another choice, Jacob. She was your mate. She trusted you, loved you, and you left her. You let her die.” Lucas‘ s voice was barely controlled, fury flashing in his eyes.

Jacob looked away, his jaw tightening. “I… I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”
“You didn’t mean for it to happen?” Lucas‘ s tone was sharp, disbelief etched across his face. “Tell that to her spirit, Jacob. She’s gone because of you. And now you stand here, acting like you deserve to be Alpha. You lost that right long ago.”
Jacob’s shoulders slumped, the weight of his guilt crashing over him. “You don’t understand. You didn’t see her the way I did. She… she was everything, but Mandy- she made me believe…”
“I don‘ t care what Mandy made you believe,” Lucas interrupted, his voice a low growl. “The pack deserves better than an Alpha who abandons his own mate. An Alpha

who can’t protect what matters most. They deserve someone who‘ ll put them first–who would’ve put her first.”
Jacob’s anger flared, his voice rising. “So, that’s it? You‘ re taking my place? You think you can do better?”
Lucas‘ s expression didn’t change. He met Jacob’s gaze steadily. “Yes. And so does the pack.”
For a moment, they stood there, the silence thick with resentment and grief. Jacob‘ s shoulders dropped, and he took a deep breath, glancing around at the pack that once looked up to him. But now, their faces were filled with doubt, disappointment, and
anger. The truth was there in their eyes: he had lost them, just like he‘ d lost everything else.

Chapter 10
“You… you really hate me, don’t you?” Jacob’s voice was barely above a whisper.
Lucas didn’t hesitate. “Hate? No, Jacob. I pity you. You threw away the one person who loved you more than anyone else in this world. And for what? For someone who would betray you just as easily.”
Jacob’s face crumbled, and he took a step back, his gaze falling to the ground. The last remnants of his pride faded, leaving him with nothing but the cold reality he’d tried so hard to ignore.
“Leave,” Lucas said firmly. “This is no longer your place. We don’t need an Alpha who’s only capable of leading himself to ruin.”
