Perhaps it was heaven’s care, but the hematoma in my dad’s brain was removed, and he woke up a week later.
The first thing he did upon waking was to call a lawyer to change his will.
We all stood in a line waiting outside the door, with Lucas visibly agitated.
“Mom, what’s Dad doing? Is he treating us like outsiders?”
Having experienced the recent events, my mom’s attitude towards Lucas had also changed.
As if annoyed, she didn’t give him a pleasant look.
“If he tells you to wait, you wait. He’s your father, do you want to make decisions for him now?”
Lucas got snubbed and didn’t dare to talk back, so he just went to smoke in a corner.
Olivia quickly approached to curry favor.
“Mom, the lakeside villa is too cold. Can I move back?”
If she hadn’t mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten.
A month ago, Olivia had accused me of putting drugs in the dessert I made for the whole family, causing her gastroenteritis.
She said I was fighting for attention and pushing her out, and she refused to live in the same space as me.
She insisted on moving out and forced my parents to give her a villa registered in her name.
Now that she had the house, she was trying various ways to come back. Where in the world could you find such a good deal?
My mom’s expression didn’t look pleased.
“I can’t make that decision. It’s up to your father.”
After hearing this, Olivia seemed confident, looking at me with obvious provocation.
I pretended not to see it. I had experienced similar situations too many times.
When I first returned to the Bailey family, I was a bit clumsy due to being unfamiliar with the life of the wealthy, and Olivia constantly belittled
- me.
She said I had low intelligence, lacked the upbringing of a young lady, and couldn’t present myself properly in society.
But my academic performance was better than hers; I was studying at a top national engineering university.
I could cook and take care of myself, often making various desserts to please my parents.
In my spare time, I would also volunteer, helping autistic children and stray animals.
In contrast, Olivia, this pampered young lady, had no real skills except for her bad temper.
Most of the time, she relied on my brother to back her up.
I looked at Lucas, who was worriedly standing not far away.
Now it seemed that even her backup wasn’t as reliable as before.
After about two hours, the lawyer finally came out of the room.
Lucas was the first to rush in and fall at the bedside.
“Dad! I really had something important that day, that’s why I couldn’t come to rescue you. I really… regret it so much!”
A flash of displeasure crossed Olivia’s face, but she also lay down by the bedside.
“Dad, I’m so glad you’re okay. You really scared me to death.”
These two were experts at playing the filial children, with Olivia even managing to squeeze out some tears on the spot.
Unfortunately, my dad was as clear–minded as if he had a new brain, and he waved his hand.
“All of you sit down. Don’t crowd around me making noise.“”
Both of them were stunned.
In the past, my dad would have been moved to tears by now, putting on a show of fatherly love and filial piety.
Now he was as calm as an outsider.
I went forward to pour a glass of warm water for my dad. He took it to moisten his throat, and his expression softened a bit.
“You all know what happened yesterday.”
“If it weren’t for Mia, I might not even be alive.”
My mom immediately put her arm around my shoulders, and I comfortingly patted her back.
“It’s okay, it’s all over now…”
My brother immediately jumped out to refute.
“She just answered some phone calls and bought some time. Couldn’t anyone with a mouth do that?”
My dad’s face clouded over again.
“Where were you when I was kidnapped? What did you do?”
Lucas was left speechless.
Olivia, not knowing any better, jumped out.
“Dad! I originally wanted to rush back, but it was all my brother’s idea. He insisted that you would be fine, Dad, that heaven protects the good.”
Saying such things at this time was really asking for trouble.
Only those who have experienced kidnapping know that it’s truly a matter of life and death.
Lucas opened his mouth to explain.
“I thought Mia was acting. She likes to compete with Olivia for attention the most. I thought she was trying to trick me into coming home…”
Reborn for a lifetime, Lucas’s misunderstanding of me was still so deep.
He always believed I was deceiving him.
I saw my father’s eyebrows knit together.
Stern without anger.
“Who would joke about their parents‘ lives? Lucas, you think Mia is as thoughtless as you!”
“You two have been bullying her all along, and she’s endured it all, just not wanting us to worry.”
“When will you understand your sister’s good intentions!”
When Lucas heard the word “sister,” it was as if some switch in his body had been triggered.
He suddenly stood up.
“I only have one sister, and that’s Olivia!”
The next second, a crisp slap landed on his cheek.
My mom, with anger she had been holding back for a long time, shocked everyone present.
“Then you can get out of the Bailey family with her!”
