Chapter 13
Each event and mistake felt like a tightly woven net, pulling his heart with every tug.
Vincent rushed out the door.
He found Claire‘ s junior, grabbed her by the arm and demanded, “Where is Claire?”
The junior looked at him with disdain.
“She left. Don’t you know?”
“Left? Where did she go?”
The junior didn’t say anything. His eyes turned red as he gripped her wrist, as
though the next moment, tears would burst from him.
“Please, just tell me where she went.”
“Did she go for an exchange at another school?” he asked, though deep down, he knew that she wouldn’t have erased every trace of her existence if she had gone for an exchange.

The junior scoffed at him.
“Funny. When you were busy flirting with. that ‘green tea‘ girl, why didn’t you care about my senior?”
Vincent froze.
The junior continued, her voice breaking.
“In the past year, if you‘ d done anything. right by her, she wouldn’t have made this decision.”
“A year ago, she rejected a prestigious offer from her professor because you proposed to her. But a year later, after countless betrayals, she chose to cut us off for ten years.”
Her voice cracked as she said, “She is my role model, the best person I know. She is so talented. Why should she marry a jerk like you?”
Vincent felt as though his heart had been wrenched out of his chest. “What did you say? Ten years?”

The junior wiped her tears.
“Yes. She’s better off without you. If you want to regret it, go ahead. She’s too good
for you.
“Disgusting!”
Vincent didn‘ t even remember how he left.
The words “Ten years” echoed in his head, hammering at his chest like a relentless blow.
How could she be so heartless? She didn‘ t leave him with anything–no farewell, no final words, just those few sentences.
Suddenly, he remembered the wedding house, not far from the school. He ran there in a panic, only to find the agent and movers cleaning out the room.
He confronted them angrily. “How dare you touch this house?”
The agent explained calmly that the contract had been signed, the property had

been transferred and the owner had
decided they no longer needed anything in
the house.
Another blow.
Claire knew. She knew everything.
This house had been given to Zoe to live in because it was closer to the company.
He felt completely wrong. How could he have let someone else live in the house he had carefully prepared for her?
What must Claire think now, seeing this. place filled with another‘ s things?
He couldn’t bear to imagine it.
And she hadn‘ t said a word to him–no questions, confrontations, or even a single angry text or call. She had lost all faith in
him.
“That’s why she was so calm, wasn’t it?‘ he thought.
As he replayed these events, he finally saw

the connections.
“Olivia Claire.”
That was Claire Olivia spelt backwards. She was the top candidate selected for the secretive project.
Vincent had belittled her with cold words,
calling her useless and worthless. His fiancée was amazing and he was only realizing it now.
Askesk
Vincent and Zoe clearly had nothing going on. He saw her only as a younger sister, someone he owed a debt to for the
kindness her parents had shown him when
he was young.
So, how had things ended up like this?
He regretted it so much. Where had it all
started?
Was it a year ago when he kept the secret of meeting Zoe at the airport to pick her up, taking her home when she was drunk and

Claire found her high heels that were still left in the car?
Or was it six months ago when Zoe entered her password in the middle of the night and showed up at his house soaked to the skin, interrupting a moment with Claire? Claire asked why she had the password, only for him to angrily snap at her for being possessive.
