“Hold on, where are you?” Rachel‘ s voice was urgent, full of panic. I mumbled the location, barely able to focus as my world went blurry. “Stay there–I’m on my way!” Her voice breaking as she hung up.
I lay there, curled up on the cold floor, every second feeling like forever. Melanie huffed and strutted off, her heels clicking away as if this was just another casual day for her. My vision blurred with pain and anger, but I focused on one thing: keeping my baby safe.
Rachel arrived in minutes, rushing to my side and practically helping me to her car. “Hang on. We’re going to the pack‘ s healer house, alright? Just stay with me, Alpha!”
As we sped down the street, I felt another contraction. “I can‘ t… I can’t lose this baby, Rachel,” I whispered, tears blurring

my vision.
“You‘ re not! We’re almost there. I’ve got you.
The pain was overwhelming. Each breath felt like a battle, but I held on, my hands over my belly. “Please… Just… save my baby.”
Finally, we pulled up to the healer‘ st
house. Pack members rushed out, familiar faces full of worry. My doctor, Dr. Lin, was already waiting, her eyes calm but intense.
“Get her inside,” she directed. They lifted me gently, carrying me into the herb- scented room. Rachel stayed by my side, gripping my hand.
Through the haze, I saw the healer arranging tools, her voice comforting. Dr. Lin checked me over, her words steady.
“You‘ re strong. Just hang on.”
The room filled with the quiet presence of my pack–my true family. Rachel kept calling Drake‘ s number, her voice urgent.

Finally, he answered, sounding annoyed. “Rachel, I’m busy. What’s going on?”
“It‘
s your mate,” she snapped. “She‘ s in-”
“Look, I’m in the middle of something. Call me if it’s serious.” Then the line went dead.
As I lay there in pain, memories of Drake kept sneaking in, each one feeling so real it. was like I was right back there.
I remembered that day by the border, lost and scared, surrounded by rogues. They were snarling, closing in–I was sure I was done for. Then out of nowhere, Drake appeared, diving in with this wild energy, tearing through them like he was born for it. When the last one finally bolted, he turned to me, breathing heavy, but his whole expression softened when he saw I was bruised up. He knelt beside me, his hands a little shaky as he reached out.
“You‘ re hurt,” he‘ d said, his voice tight with worry. “I told you to stay away

from the border.
I tried to brush it off, still freaked out but grateful he was there. “I just wanted a little adventure, I guess.”
He shook his head, looking down at the scrapes on my knee. “Well, then let me take care of you,” he said softly. He ripped a piece of his own shirt, pressing it gently to my cuts. “You‘ re safe now. I’m here. Always.”
I remember looking up at him, heart racing for a whole different reason.
“Thanks, Drake. I don‘ t know what I’d do without you.”
He just grinned, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “Lucky for you, you‘ 11 never have to find out.”
That was the day I fell for him. Every touch, every look, just made me believe he’d always be there.
Then another memory slipped in–one of those simple, everyday moments that used

to mean the world to me. I’d been trying to cook at his place, dead set on surprising him with something decent, and ended up cutting my finger. It was tiny, barely anything, but he made such a scene.
“Oh my god, you‘ re bleeding!” he‘ d said, rushing over like I’d just lost a finger. He held my hand so carefully, inspecting this little cut with all this
concern.
I laughed, feeling a little silly. “Drake, it’s just a scratch. I’m fine.”
But he was already pulling out the first–aid kit, looking all serious. “I don‘ t care. If you’re hurt, it matters. Now sit down and let me fix it.” He wrapped it up slowly, then looked at me with this intense expression. “I hate seeing you hurt, you know that?”
