Chapter 5
Trix’s POV
I would report them to the police–but not
just yet.
When we got to Big Dream
Entertainment‘ s U.S. branch, Iris and I barely had time to catch our breath and sip some water before Leroy‘ s call came in.
“Alexia, you’re losing your mind! Think you can run? There’s nowhere in Midland I can’t find you!”
He paused, then added, “Come back on your own, and after the surgery, I’ll look worldwide for a new heart for you. I’ll get you the best follow–up care to keep you going. But if you leave, you‘ re walking a dead–end road.”
I gave a cold laugh. “Mr. Hurst, quit lying. If you meant that, why not find a donor heart for Lauren? Why use mine? Funny, isn’t it, how two people could be such a

perfect match?”
“W–What nonsense are you spouting?” he stammered. “Lauren‘ s only our adopted daughter!”
But yesterday, while setting up those cameras, I had stumbled upon a paternity test showing that Leroy was Lauren’s biological father. I didn‘ t have all the pieces, but it was clear enough–Lauren was his illegitimate daughter. No wonder he was so desperate to keep her alive, even at my expense.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about, Mr. Hurst. Why not come clean about the filthy things you did twenty years ago?”
“Shut up! You–some girl who was selling street food–have no right to lecture me! I’m warning you, get back here now, or I’ll find you, and when I do-”
I hung up on him mid–sentence. Iris patted my shoulder sympathetically.

Chapter 5
I hung up on him mid–sentence. Iris placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“I can’t believe your own father could be so low,” she murmured, handing me a folder. “Here’s what I found on his
company. It’s been losing money for years. He’s spent nearly everything he had on Lauren’s illness, and now he’s close to going broke.”
I smirked. “Some ‘powerful‘ opponent -one nudge, and he‘ s ruined.”
“It’s your call. You‘ re in charge here at the U.S. branch,” she reminded me.
I’d made billions for Big Dream Entertainment over in Europe and Australia, so the CEO had given me full control of the U.S. branch. And, as luck would have it, Leroy‘ s company worked in the entertainment industry too. So, I called up a few of his main business. partners and offered them double what Hurst’s company was paying if they‘ d work with Big Dream instead.
