Chapter 60
Janet sobbed, patting his cheek. “Grandpa, wake up. We can’t let anything happen to you!”
She was full of regret. If she had known this would happen, she would have kept Carlos from going out with her might and never covered for him.
She understood why Lloyd was afraid of Silas, but she couldn’t get why he was afraid of Lenore, a country bumpkin. He handed over half the family fortune without a fight. But now, her regret was a waste of time.
Lloyd still had a sliver of consciousness. He clutched the butler’s arm, stared straight ahead, and trembled as he spoke, “Go… Go bring Carlos… That good–for–nothing… Back to me!”
After uttering this, he completely passed out, and the entire Duncan family was thrown into chaos.
The rain outside had picked up, and the night wind was cool. Walking beside her, one could feel the chill radiating from Lenore.
Getting into the car and accidentally touching her skin, Silas felt it was as cold as if she had just been pulled out of an ice cave.
Silas frowned and asked Chuck to turn on the cat’s air conditioning and raise the temperature.
Sitting in the passenger seat and fiddling with his earring, Wayne smiled with glee.
He said, “We politely asked him to come out of retirement, but he refused. Now, in just a few days, his grandson has brought down the Duncan family. He probably won’t recover from this blow.”
Lloyd had only one son, who died young, and Carlos, his grandson, was no match for power. If Lloyd, who held real power, fell, the Duncan family, with its current situation, would soon be devoured by others who had been watching and waiting.
Lenore got into the car and started replying to messages on her phone. Silas’s large coat was still draped over her shoulders, but it couldn’t hide the chill from her body. Her lowered, delicate eyes hid a hint of mischief..
Silas took out a thermos from the glove compartment and handed it to her. “Hot water.”
Lenore’s fingertips paused slightly. She glanced at him and took the thermos with one hand. “Thank you.”
Chuck had previously had some opinions about Lenore, but he was completely convinced tonight. He glanced at Silas from the rearview mirror and didn’t dare to say anything more, focusing intently on driving.
‘Silas showed such an attitude toward a woman for the first time. Could it be he’s really into her?‘ Chuck thought.
Wayne couldn’t figure out his thoughts, and with a side glance at Lenore, his charming eyes flickered slightly. “Lenore, I’m curious about why Lloyd is so afraid of you.”
Whether it was yesterday or today, anyone who wasn’t a fool could see that Lloyd was terrified and fearful of Lenore. Although he suppressed it in front of them, it was still very obvious.
But with the information they had gathered, Lenore grew up in Peacefield and had never had any interaction with the Duncan family.
Lenore took a few sips of hot water and then lightly licked her lips, her eyes sparkling. “He keeps his word and settles his grandson’s debts. Lloyd’s a stand–up guy,” she said casually.
Chuck and Wayne looked speechless. If they had anything in their mouths, they would have sprayed it out directly. If they had anything in their mouths, it would have come flying out. What a load of bull. Even a ghost wouldn’t buy it.
Silas’s eyes showed deep meaning, and his deep gaze flickered slightly. He took out his phone and said in a low and quite casual voice, “I’ve transferred 300 million to your account.”
“Me?” Wayne’s eyes lit up. “For me?”
Silas glanced at him like he was an idiot, his gaze falling on Lenore.
Lenore raised her eyebrows slightly. Silas’s gaze was clear, and he said, “Aren’t you short of money? You earned it, anyway.”
Lenore gave him a long, hard look, a smirk tugging at her lips and a fiery glint in her eyes. “Yeah, I earned it fair and square with my own sweat.”
Joshua Stout’s latest project was decked out with top–of–the–line, high–precision gear, and it didn’t come cheap. She invested a lot of money, and

she was indeed short on money at the moment.

Wayne felt that he had been wishful thinking. He should have known that Silas wouldn’t be so kind to him. But then again, although he didn’t get the answer as to why Lloyd was afraid of Lenore, asking about another thing was still possible.
“Lenore,” he persisted. “Your beautiful friend said that the motorcycle was modified by you. Can you modify one for me?”
Wayne mentioned this at the Culinary Ascent dinner last time.
Lenore looked at him, saying, “Modify it to a motorcycle for international competitions?”
