Chapter 59
Lenore glanced at Janet, tilted her head, and chuckled. “I scam the Duncan family? Seriously?”
Her voice was soft, but it had this icy edge to it that chilled you to the bone, dripping with disdain.
Janet was popular, shining brightly in art school and dance classes, like a superstar wherever she went. She lost face at Culinary Ascent with Esther, but at the Duncan residence, no one in Jinslenburg would defame the Duncan family.
“You…” Janet started to retort, but Lloyd cut her off, shouting, “Enough!”
Lloyd had lived too long to be a fool. The moment he heard Lenore was here, he knew Carlos had likely messed up again. Now, seeing the paper, it all clicked; his gut feeling was right.
The wrinkles on Lloyd’s weathered face were shaking. He looked at his usually obedient and sensible granddaughter, and he was so furious that he could hardly stand. “Your brother’s out of control, and you’re in on it, lying to me, too. You…”
“Grandpa!” Seeing him wobble, Janet panicked for real, clutching Lloyd’s arm, her eyes filling with tears. “It’s because Carlos said he’d win for sure.
I…”
“Brat!” Lloyd pushed her off, collapsing into a chair.
Wayne, always up for a show, laughed out loud. “Mr. Duncan, you’ve raised a real winner here.”
Lloyd’s face, all lines and wrinkles, lost its color. With just Silas and Wayne, he wasn’t afraid, but he knew Lenore was someone the Duncan family couldn’t afford to mess with.
His sunken eyes met Lenore’s, his mouth opening and closing, struggling to speak. “Ms. Smedley, if you’re here, it must be true. My grandson’s out of line. My fault. I’ll honor the bet and give you half the family’s wealth.”
“Grandpa?” Janet’s eyes bulged in disbelief.
But Lloyd ignored her, calling for the butler, his voice shaky as he commanded, “Settle the Duncan family’s accounts and transfer half of it to Ms. Smedley.”
The butler, who’d served the Duncan family for decades, had never seen Lloyd so petrified, especially not by a young woman. He was shocked but obedient, knowing better than to ask questions now.
The Duncan family’s total assets were 2.5 billion, half of which was 1.25 billion.
Listening to the bank account update, Lenore felt pretty pleased. She texted back a few messages, propped her chin on her hand, and smirked at Lloyd.
“If he doesn’t straighten up, I’d be happy to keep setting him straight for you,” she said with a rebellious, wild vibe.
Veins popped into Lloyd’s aged hands as he clutched his cane tightly, and he couldn’t force a smile. “I… I’ll handle him…”
“Ms. Smedley’s settled. Now it’s my turn,” Silas piped up.
He’d been quiet since they arrived, but his presence was as undeniable as the moon and the wind. His words made Lloyd’s heart skip a beat.
Then Silas nudged Wayne with his foot.
Wayne’s mouth twitched as he stepped forward. “Your grandson offered odds, ten to one. We won, and he still owes us 300 million.”
Lloyd’s cane hit the floor, cracking a tile.
Silas glanced at it, his voice neutral as he said, “You’ll cover your grandson’s debt, I assume?”
Carlos couldn’t pay back what he owed Chuck.
Not wanting to upset the Faulkner family over 300 million and knowing the Duncans couldn’t risk it, Lloyd trembled before he could speak. “No… No problem…”
In one night, the Duncan family sold off businesses. Their wealth dwindled, and they plummeted from the top of Jinslenburg to ruin.

As soon as Silas and Lenore left, Lloyd collapsed.
“Mr. Duncan!” the butler shouted, rushing to his side.
“Grandpa!” Janet yelled in shock.
Then the butler and Janet hurried to help, and the Duncan family fell into chaos.
