Chapter 42
Since he was a kid, Carlos had been the apple of everyone’s eye, and at Jinslenburg, he was the kingpin. People doffed their caps to him as Mr. Duncan, and he’d never tasted defeat.
But now, right in front of everyone, he was being shown up by a girl. Burning with embarrassment, he jumped to his feet with his fists clenched, throwing wild punches at Lenore.
Lenore’s smirk grew as Carlos threw a punch that came at her like a fast breeze. With hands that looked fragile yet strong, she snatched his wrist, twisted it with a crackling sound, and launched him off his feet.
Carlos slammed into a car on the side of the road, his wrist throbbing like crazy. Wincing, he yelled at the guys he’d brought along. “Are you guys deaf or what? Don’t you see I’m getting my butt handed to me?”
Ivan, one of the five men Carlos had brought along, was still struggling to his feet. Lenore’s kick had transported him back to the night he’d been pummeled, and now, when he saw her casual stance, fear trickled into his veins.
The others, Carlos‘ minions, had been momentarily stunned by their leader’s downfall, but Carlos‘ bellow jolted them back to reality. They rolled up their sleeves, charging at Lenore with vicious intent.
Lenore’s cold smile hardened as she swiftly seized a fist, twisted it, and sent a man, towering at nearly 5 feet and 9 inches, off–kilter. Leveraging the momentum, she sprang, planting her foot on the chests of two others.
With precision and speed, Lenore had Carlos‘ minions airborne within a minute. They landed in neat rows on the ground, howling in pain.
Lenore stood there, and her school uniform was crisp without a wrinkle in sight. She was serene as if she’d just taken a leisurely stroll.
“Carlos…” Ivan staggered to Carlos‘ side and whispered, “This girl is a bit eerie…”
There were five men, and they hadn’t even grazed her clothes, yet she had effortlessly dismantled them. It was more than just a little eerie.
Carlos turned to Esther, asking, “Didn’t you say she was from a small town?”
On WhatsApp, when he’d inquired about Lenore, Esther had painted her as a nobody from a small town, with no ties to Wayne, which had spurred him to take revenge on Lenore.
Esther, who had just been flung aside, was still reeling in disbelief. Startled by his fierce shout, she flinched with her fingers clutching her skirt, biting her lip in silence.
She knew Lenore had been fierce as a child, but she never anticipated her to be so formidable in combat now.
“Damn it!” Carlos didn’t expect anything from Esther. He had never experienced such humiliation in his life. He cursed under his breath, gritted his teeth, and spat out a threat at Lenore. “You’re dead meat!”
“Is that so?” Lenore cocked her head, sauntering toward him with a slow, steady stride that was as threatening as it was unhurried like she had all the time in the world and was ready to make him pay.
Her eyes had a freaky red tint to them, and her vibe was so icy that it made one’s hair stand on end.
The men who had just been beaten felt their legs wobble under her imposing presence, staggering back in retreat.
Lenore let out a snort, stopped in her tracks, and said casually, “If you aren’t happy, you’re welcome to take another shot at me, but…”
Her piercing gaze scanned the group of men. “Come at me with some real players next time instead of this joker squad.”
Her arrogance was so blatant that it almost made Carlos‘ anger burst from his eyes. He was nursing his sore wrist, glaring at her, and through gritted teeth, he growled out a warning. “Lenore, you’re gonna regret this.”
“Feel free to challenge me anytime.” Lenore raised an eyebrow, scoffed, and turned to leave.
It wasn’t until she was out of sight that the nearly hundred people gathered at the school gate broke the silence with a cacophony of voices.
“Daring to hit Carlos? This girl is fucking amazing!”
“Is the Duncan family someone you mess with? I don’t know whether to call her ignorant or arrogant…”

Chapter 42
“But don’t forget Lenore is Kyle’s aunt, and Kyle is part of the Zamora family in Denisville.”
“Bullshit! Just because Kyle says so, do you believe him? Who knows what kind of dirty secrets are hidden?”
“Anyway, I think Lenore is really done for this time!”
Even if nobody met Carlos, they all knew who the Duncan family was and what Carlos was about. Lenore had really pushed his buttons, and it looked like she was looking for trouble. The crowd was in total disbelief and freaked out by her move.
