In every class, there was always a representative, and since Tara was the top student, Jonas had picked her for the job.
Lenore frowned. “What homework?”
Tara hesitated for a moment before answering. “Um… just…, two papers.
Lenore suddenly recalled the homework assignment and dug through her bag to find a crumpled sheet among love notes. She handed it to Tara and settled back down, eager for some rest
Tara opened the paper, expecting a homework worksheet, but it was completely blank–not a single word on it.
Tara was speechless upon seeing the blank paper but chose not to disturb Lenore again. After a moment, she went back to her seat, took out her own worksheet, and started filling in the answers.
Lance, dribbling a basketball, noticed what was going on and walked over. “Hey, Tara, can I copy your answers too?”
Tara scrunched her face and shot back, “Buzz off.”
Lance couldn’t believe it. Talk about a double standard,’ he thought.
Just then, the bell rang, and Kyle strolled into the classroom, placing a can of milk on Lenore’s desk.
Lance raised an eyebrow, curious. “Kyle, you’ve been in every class lately”
Usually, if Kyle made it to two classes in a week, it was impressive. But now, he hadn’t missed a single one.
Kyle shrugged, a playful glint in his eye. “What’s wrong with wanting to study hard and improve?”
Lance grinned. “It’s because of Lenore, isn’t it?”
“Get lost!” Kyle playfully kicked at him, pretending to be annoyed. “You think you can just mention my aunt’s name like that
Lance let out a snort. ‘More double standards at play! he thought to himself.
As the class bell rang out, Lenore stood up and leaned against the wall, looking as alert and cool as ever. No sign of her being sleepy at all. She playfully nudged Kyle’s chair with her foot. “What class have we got now?”
Kyle smirked, one side of his mouth lifting. “Maih.”
“Hey, have you all heard the gossip? The new school babe that everyone’s buzzing about is actually Esther’s sister!”
“New school babe? Who are you referring to?”
“Lenore, the new face in Class 24!”
“Really? Why didn’t anyone mention this before?”
“Yeah, I heard that Lenore was involved in her mom’s death when she was little and was sent to live in a small town, where she hung out with some pretty rough crowds. She got into Greevine High School because she’s being kept by a wealthy

“Ah, that makes sense! She’s only been here for two days, and she’s already got Kyle under her spell. She must be good at this.

“I’ve also heard that Lenore was quite the handful even as a kid. They say at just four years old, she was running the show in kindergarten.”
“Wait, she was in charge in kindergarten at four? That’s an exaggeration, right?”
“No idea, but rumors usually have a grain of truth. If I were Esther, I wouldn’t claim a sister like Lenore either. It’s just too embarrassing

friend saw them at Culinary Ascent yesterday. Esther confronted Bonnie about her missing necklace, and the truth is it was under the sink the whole time, where a passerby found it
“Rich people are always so dramatic.
“I don’t think she can be considered rich.”
By lunchtime, the gossip was flying. The news that Lenore and Esther were sisters left everyone in shock and sparked a flurry of conversation.
“I’m not surprised,” one girl said. “Lenore’s trouble. She’s just asking for drama, and she looks like she’s got a wicked side.” “Who are you calling trouble?” a voice interjected.
Before the girl could finish, a hand grabbed her collar, and she found herself pressed against the wall, facing Kyle’s steely
gaze.
She paused, inwardly scoffing. ‘Lenore really knows how to manipulate people–even Kyle is on her side.
“If Lenore did something, she should handle the heat. The girl tried to stand her ground. “I saw her hanging with a crowd of guys last night.”
Kyle shoved her aside, a sneer on his face. “Those were her friends!”
He scanned the crowd of students watching them, the gossip swirling in his mind. “What’s the big deal about Lenore and Esther being sisters?” he shouted.
“Sure, Esther had it easy in the city with their dad, but Lenore struggled alone in a small town. Without the welfare center director adopting her, she might not have survived. Where else would you find a family like that?” he stated, his anger simmering.
