Chapter 16
319 Biomedical Engineering had been around for over twenty years, but about seven or eight years ago, it was shut down for running illegal experiments. Those who were involved vanished without a trace.
Silas and Wayne searched for answers but found nothing concrec.”
few people who knew the details kept quiet.
Recently, a small disturbance in Orinadia was connected to the source of the prokaryotic embryos that 319 Biomedical Engineering had been studying. Pedro had been part of that research, so bringing him back into the fold made it clear this situation was complicated.
Wayne frowned, trying to wrap his head around it. “My grandpa never talks about it. Do you really think the rumors about 319 Biomedical Engineering having living test subjects are true?”
They’re just rumors and we’ve found nothing after such a long time. There’s no rush, Silas wondered. He leaned back, his face calm and hard–edged. “We’ll find out eventually.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Silas spotted a slender figure slipping into a car with a man. He slowly rolled down his shirt sleeves and made his way toward them. “You go back to Denisville tomorrow,” he said.
Wayne broke his cigarette, tossed it away, and hurried to catch up. “Aren’t you coming?”
. “I’ve got stuff to take care of, Silas replied casually.
Under a hazy crescent moon, the neon lights flickered between the towering skyscrapers. It was the vibrant nightlife of Jinslenburg after eight.
In the West District, along Riverside Avenue, Ken was busy setting up barricades with his subordinates. “Everyone, listen to Lenore later. If she says to stall, you stall,” he instructed.
A group of uniformed men shifted their gazes to the roadside. Lenore was leaning against a car, her long legs slightly bent/A black mask covered her striking features.
With her head down, she tapped away on her phone, seemingly caught up in a game. She radiated a cool, fearless vibe. One younger guy brushed his short hair back and leaned closer to Ken, whispering, “Mr. Sharpe, is she even old enough?”
Ken shot him a look. “Do you think I’d bring a minor into this? Respect my position here. The young man fell silent, embarrassed.
Ken’s eyes lingered on Lenore, a mix of emotions flooding over him. Three years earlier, during a raid at a karaoke bar, he and his team finally caught the person they had been tracking. But when the door broke open, he found bis daughter inside
Honoring his badge and duty, he had to arrest her himself, battling his own grief and anger. Unfortunately, just as they exited, a group of gang members trapped them. The gang sped off, and in the chaos, they lost some team members.
Suddenly, Lenore jumped into his car and drove like a maniac to chase the gang down. But tragically, Ken’s daughter didn’t make it. She was thrown from the car and lost her life.
His daughter was both a victim and guilty. She didn’t deserve to die. Although they caught the main target, the people responsible for her death still roamed free.

He couldn’t stay on the force after that. He resigned and joined the traffic police, hoping to one day find the vehicle and the person responsible for his daughter’s death.
Looking back, he owed Lenore a huge debt of gratitude for her help.
The bright headlights blaring nearby pulled him from his thoughts. Ken straightened up, saying, “It’s time to get to work.”
Lenore finished her last message, tucked her phone away, pulled her hat down, and sauntered over.
