Chapter 15
As the food was being served, Ken wasted no time. He turned to Lenore and, feeling a bit awkward, said, “Here’s the deal: there’s been an uptick in reckless street racing around Jinslenburg lately. They’re completely disregarding traffic laws, and the cars are illegally modified.
“We think there’s an organization behind it all. We’ve only caught a few minor offenders so far. I heard you’re in town, and I could really use your help.
Ken had known Lenore for a couple of years and was well aware of her talent with cars. She had this knack for spotting modifications in an instant. If she agreed to help, they stood a good chance of catching the mastermind behind the chaos.
Lenore quickly typed a couple of replies on her phone and glanced around the room. The men were watching her with hopeful expressions.
“Since when did traffic cops start dealing with organizations like this?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ken gave a half–smile and replied, “Well, the cars have to be on the road, right?”
For the last two months, the streets had been filled with the roar of engines every night..
Those people treated the roads like their personal racetrack, ignoring traffic lights entirely, and neither barricades nor signs seemed to faze them. Just a few days ago, there was an accident
Lenore thought for a moment and said lazily. Sure, but I’m in school now, so I can only help out after nine in the evening Is she going to school? Ken wondered. He was already taken aback when he heard her chatting with Troy downstairs. Now, hearing it again, he just smirked and offered no further commen
He wondered, ‘It’s clear that big shots think differently than most people. But at least she agreed to help!
Ken let out a relieved sigh, a smile spreading across his face. “Perfect. Tonight’s the best night for this. I promise I won’t keep you out too late.”
In the next room, the delicious aroma of food wafted through the air, creating a pleasant atmosphere that felt worlds away from the chaos downstairs. Rachel glanced at Esther, her satisfaction growing. “You’ve been sticking to your dance practice, haven’t you?”
Esther beamed, “Absolutely”
Rachel nodded approvingly. “At the end of the month, the famous dancer Victoria Harris is coming to Senanville to perform. Your cousin is her student. You should come and have some fun for a few days.”
Victoria was a seasoned performer, and being under her guidance could open major doors. Esther’s eyes sparkled. “Thank you, Aunt Rachel
She thought, ‘No matter what secret lingers from the past, it will remain hidden, and Lenore will always be in the background.
If Esther could become Victoria’s student, the Smedley family could really make a name for themselves in Denisville. The irritation Troy had felt toward Lenore melted away, and he smiled at Esther. “Keep up with your dance practice. I’ll

enroll you in another dance class. Just let Sharon know if you need anything.” he said.

Sharon didn’t mind being overlooked. She was busy shelling crabs for Darren but looked up with a grin. “Good thing the weekend starts the day after tomorrow. I’ll take you out for shopping.”
Esther smiled shyly. Thank you, Sharon.”
Darren, full of excitement, raised his hand. “Mom, Dad, I want to join too.”
Feeling cheerful, Troy waved his hand theatrically and replied, “You remember everything. Go with them, and if you want anything, just have your mom get it for you.
The mood in the room was warm and cozy.
After dinner, it was already nine o’clock. Wayne pulled out a cigarette but thought better of lighting it with Silas nearby. He twirled the cigarette in his fingers and asked, “So, what do you think Lloyd is up to?”
The Duncan family might not be a big deal in Denisville, but it held a significant influence in Jinslenburg, Lloyd Duncan was the family older, and he once shared a mentor with Pedro, Wayne had been talking business with him.
Silas casually smoothed out his clothes. The black ring on his right pinky glittered as he replied in a cool, clear voice, “The situation with 319 Biomedical Engineering is pretty complicated. Besides people like your grandpa, not many find it worth their time.”
Wayne’s mouth twitched and he said. “And you’re willing to get involved?
Silas raised an eyebrow. “Do you have a problem with that?”
Wayne didn’t dare to say anything against it.
