“Don’t mention it! Don’t!”
At that moment, I finally understood why Asher had such a strange expression when I asked about the scent on him.
He had suspected me from the start.
Celeste slumped to the ground in despair:
“If he had no feelings for me, why marry me?”
“I’ve been by his side since I was a teenager, and now you’re telling me it was all fake? Why! I’d rather marry an ordinary man and live my life!”
Her tears fell, and I watched her tearful eyes.
In the end, I just sighed.
After that day, my sister became the most ordinary servant in Asher’s Family.
Serving by my side, enduring my scolding and beating.
On the day of the Parker Family’s funeral, my sister couldn’t bear such a humiliating life anymore.
She knelt before me, desperately bowing her head:
“Sister, please, for the sake of our family ties, send me back! I swear I’ll never appear before you again!”
I played with my nails, not speaking, and she lowered her request:
“Or marry me off to an ordinary man, I promise to behave! I won’t cause trouble!”
Raised in comfort from a young age, she couldn’t handle the hardship.
Her once delicate hands were now covered in cuts.
I suddenly laughed:
“I’ll have someone send you back to the Parker Family tonight. Sister, I can’t bear to see you suffer.”
She couldn’t believe I let her go so easily until she sneaked back in through the Parker Family’s back door.

I fiddled with my manicure in silence as she made a hesitant proposal, “Why don’t you just marry me off to someone ordinary? I promise I’ll be good and won’t cause any trouble!”

Having been spoiled from a young age, she couldn’t endure a life of hardship.
Her once delicate hands were now marked with scars.
I suddenly smiled, “I’ll arrange for you to be sent back to the Lin family tonight. Sister, I can’t bear to see you suffer.”
She didn’t believe I would let her go so easily until she slipped back through the Lin family’s back door.
Mabel stood beside me, her wrists bearing the marks of self–harm, “Are you really letting her go just like that?”
I glanced at the expensive diamond ring on my finger and smirked, “Sometimes, it’s more entertaining to give the prey a way out and then corner it completely, don’t you think?”
Mabel gave me a long look but remained silent.
Summer came quickly, and Asher filled my closet with all the high–end fashion from the runway.
“Nora, you look stunning in these clothes,” he said, embracing me from behind, his eyes brimming with affection.
I smiled and leaned into him, “You always buy me so much; the wardrobe can hardly hold it all.”
He was unconcerned, “These clothes only show their true beauty on you. My wife deserves the best the world has to offer.”
“A while back at the shareholders‘ meeting, the Second Young Master was reported for causing a female college student’s death. The tycoon
is considering sending him abroad,” he whispered, kissing my earlobe.
I nodded, “Such a malicious person should have been sent away long ago. Keeping him here is just asking for trouble.”
He smiled slightly, “We always seem to be on the same wavelength. But the Second Young Master’s uncle disagrees. Even though the First Lady is gone, her influence remains. The report at the shareholders‘ meeting was my doing.”
I kept my expression neutral, as if I hadn’t heard him.
Throughout our time together, I discovered that he wasn’t as volatile as rumored.
But he was deeply calculating and ruthless.
Such a man is best kept as an ally. As an enemy, you wouldn’t know how you met your end.
“Nora, are you afraid of me?”
I handed the clothes I had taken off to the housekeeper and replied calmly, “Why would I be afraid? You’re my husband. You would never harm
me.”
He paused for a moment, then laughed heartily, “Nora, since you trust me this much, I shouldn’t hide it from you. I’m actually the son of Mayor Asher.”
The jewelry in my hand slipped to the ground.
Mayor Asher, the people’s mayor, known for his dedication to public service.
Yet he was framed and left us forever.
His family vanished without a trace. So…
Mentioning his father, Asher’s emotions surged, “Our family ended up like this because of the tycoon and the First Lady.”
Back then, when Mayor Asher was a poor young man, he met the wealthy First Lady in college. She fell for him at first sight, but her mother intervened.
Without any choice, Mayor Asher left that painful place and later married Asher’s mother.
The First Lady, driven by love turned to hate, joined forces with Mayor Asher’s political enemies, accusing him of corruption.
