The room suddenly became quiet, with only me sitting alone on the sofa. Just then, my parents arrived. Seeing how exhausted I looked, they were almost in tears with worry.
My mother’s embrace was still warm.
I gently patted her back, comforting her: “Mom, don’t cry. I’m really fine. This will all pass, and I’ll be okay.”
My father stood nearby, his eyes full of complex emotions.

He slowly spoke, his voice heavy: “Emily, Dad used to always try to persuade you to reconcile, thinking it was for your own good. But now I see! was wrong. From now on, whatever decision you make, Dad will support you. I’ll always be on your side.”
Listening to my father’s words, my eyes couldn’t help but moisten.
“Thank you, Dad. I’ll take good care of myself, don’t worry!”
After seeing my parents off, I sat at my desk, turned on my computer, and started sending out resumes.
A few days later, I received interview notifications from several companies.
I prepared carefully, giving my all in every interview.
However, just two days later, Jack suddenly appeared at my doorstep again.
“Emily, can we not get divorced? I can support you for a lifetime, give you the best life.”
“Aren’t you tired of this?” I sneered, “Jack, how many times do I have to say ‘divorce‘ before you understand?”
His face instantly turned ashen.
“Emily, I know I’ve done a lot of wrong things in the past, but I’m really trying to change.
He spoke, his tone carrying a hint of barely noticeable pleading.
“We can hire a housekeeper to help, and you won’t have to work. I’ll arrange everything. And about Sophia and me, it’s really over between us, I
swear”
I looked at him coldly, not feeling a bit moved.
“When we first got married, I suggested hiring a housekeeper or splitting the housework, but what did you say? You called me a lazy woman, said I was both ugly and useless. Have you forgotten those words?”
His expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure.
“Emily, I was too impulsive then and said many things I shouldn’t have. But you should know, I didn’t really mean it,” he tried to explain, but I didn’t want to hear anymore.
“Didn’t really mean it? Then what about Sophia? How do you treat her?”
He was silent for a moment, then suddenly knelt in front of me.
“Emily, I was wrong. I was really wrong. I’m willing to do anything to make up for my mistakes. Please give me a chance, let’s start over.”
He spoke while kowtowing, as if he was really atoning for his mistakes.
However, his apologies and regrets had become worthless in my eyes.
I picked up a broom nearby and swung it at him without hesitation. “Get out! You jinx! I never want to see you again!” I shouted.
He stumbled back from my blows, finally fleeing out of my house in a sorry state.
I closed the door and leaned against it, breathing heavily.
Jack still stubbornly stood outside, his voice coming through the door crack, carrying a hint of humble pleading: “Emily, calm down. You can hit me all you want, as long as you can forgive me.”
Hearing this, a wave of indescribable nausea welled up in me, as if I had touched something filthy.
“Jack, do you think there’s any possibility I could forgive you? Your touch only makes me feel dirty.”
I responded coldly, without a hint of hesitation in my tone.

He seemed to be stunned for a moment, then his voice carried a hint of anger and unwillingness: “Emily, how can you be so heartless? Don’t forget, the mandatory waiting period before finalizing a divorce has been extended to 60 days, and as long as one party withdraws the application, the divorce can’t go through. Do you think you can easily get rid of me?”
His voice carried a hint of threat, as if boasting about the cards he held.
I took a deep breath, trying to keep myself calm: “Jack, do you think this can tie me down? Let me tell you, Emily Johnson has never been someone who can be manipulated. If you have any self–awareness left, never appear in front of me again”
Just when I thought he would give up, he suddenly pushed hard, and the door was forcefully opened.
He stepped in, his eyes flashing with a crazy light, and suddenly hugged me, trying to forcibly take me away.
I struggled in terror, using all my strength to push him away,
his
strength was surprisingly great, and I was almost dragged out the door.
“Let go of me! You bastard!” I screamed, my hands frantically scratching at him.
In the chaotic struggle, I accidentally tore open a button on his shirt,
vealing a prominent hickey on his collarbone.
At that moment, my heart sank to the bottom, disgust and anger intertwined, almost overwhelming me,
“You! You’re filthy!” I screamed, using my last ounce of strength to push him away, pointing at that mark and shouting angrily.
His face instantly turned pale, as if struck by lightning.
“Get out of my house! I’m calling the police right now!” I shouted furiously, picking my phone to dial
