Chapter 7
During my time in the hospital, Caelan took care of me better than ever.
But I knew it was pointless. Nothing could be fixed.
When he saw I did not feel touched, he started talking about our past.
But no matter what he said, I stayed quiet.
Anything I wanted to say had faded away over the five years of our marriage.
On the day I was discharged, a lawyer came to the room and gave him the divorce papers.
The moment Caelan took them, his face darkened. He snapped at the lawyer, screaming, “Get out! I don’t need you!”
Soon, it was just the two of us in the room.
When he did not make a move to sign, I said coldly, “You were the one who wanted a divorce. You were the one yelling about setting me free. Now that the papers are right here, what are you waiting for?
“You know me. Once I decide on something, I don’t change my mind. I was determined to marry you back then, and I’m just as determined to leave now. Just sign it. Don’t make me lose more respect for you.”
As soon as I finished speaking, Caelan looked hurt. He held his head, almost falling apart, and kept repeating, “Nellie, I was wrong. Can’t you give me another chance?
“You know we had good times together. I made one mistake. Just one!
“I swear, nothing happened between Isabel and me. We didn’t cross any lines…”
The more he talked, the weaker his voice became.
It trailed off, as if even he did not believe himself.
I did not believe him either.
I spoke without any emotion, “Really? So, when does it count as crossing a line?
“Is it when I see you two in bed together?
“Caelan, aren’t you being a bit cruel?”
As I said this, I could not help but laugh.
“Admit it. Your love for me started to fade the moment I hurt my leg.
“You won’t divorce me because you’re scared of being called a heartless man. You just can’t handle the thought of the woman who quietly supported you suddenly leaving.”
I looked into Caelan’s eyes and tried to see through him. “Am I right?”
He fell silent again and looked to be in even more pain than before.
He wanted to argue but could not because I had hit the nail on the head.
I did not want to talk to him anymore. I stood up and pointed to the divorce papers, “It doesn’t matter if

you don’t sign them. I’ll sue you.”
I got into Andrew’s car, but Caelan held onto the door and would not let go.
After getting my permission, Andrew hit Caelan hard and knocked him to the ground.

“Are you regretting things now that you’ve lost her? Can you be any more pathetic?” Andrew sneered as he drove me away.
In the car, after thinking for a long time, Andrew finally said, “Nellie, I’ve wanted to tell you to leave him for a while, but I never found the courage.
“It’s because you’re both my friends, and I was worried you might misunderstand.
“Now that you’ve decided to leave, I completely support you. I hope you find a new life!”
I smiled and nodded.
In the rearview mirror, I saw Caelan running after our car for four blocks.
But he could not keep up with us. Two legs could not outrun four wheels.
Eventually, he fell behind.
I heard that Caelan ended up sitting in the middle of the street. He was crying and holding his head, which caused a traffic jam.
In the end, the police had to pull him away.
After that day, Caelan locked himself in his house and refused to see anyone.
He even slapped Isabel when she tried to visit him.
I read Andrew’s message but did not reply.
Caelan’s situation was not worth my attention anymore.
