I had long wanted to
I to leave this house. Staying even a second longer would make me vomit.
I turned to leave, but when I opened the door, I was surprised to find Hugo Edwards standing outside.
His hand was still raised as if about to knock. Seeing my upset expression, his handsome brows furrowed.
“What’s wrong?”
- o. We’re not welcome here.”
“Let’s go.
Hugo only said “Okay” before taking my hand and preparing to leave.
I guess the people in the living room heard the commotion because just as we were turning to leave, we heard calls from behind.
“Wait, daughter! Hugo, please come in and sit!”

I tilted my head, pretending not to understand.
“Dad, didn’t you just tell me to get out?”
My dad’s old face turned purple, then red, then blue.
“No, no, I was just joking with your
Hugo snorted lightly, his phoenix eyes cold. “What kind of joke involves telling my wife to get out?”
“No, no, you misunderstood.”
My dad explained frantically, sweating profusely, constantly giving me meaningful looks.
I pretended not to see, until I noticed Natalie’s unusual gaze.
Her eyes were locked onto Hugo, flashing with envy, jealousy, and some other emotions.
Today, Hugo wore a black trench coat paired with a high–neck casual wool sweater, which accentuated his tall figure and elegant demeanor.
Combined with his flawless features and… perfectly fine legs, Zack instantly became a nobody next to him.
No wonder Natalie glared at me. She must be feeling some regret now!
“Misunderstanding or not, it doesn’t matter. But my wife, Nancy Edwards, is not someone just anyone can bully!”
Hugo looked down at me, his handsome face softening with tenderness.
“Let’s go home. I’ve prepared a candlelit dinner”
“Okay!”
I took Hugo’s arm, completely ignoring my dad’s repeated apologies behind us.
It felt so good, really amazing!
“Why did you come?”
Hugo looked at me, his dark eyes hiding some unknown meaning.
“Why didn’t you tell me about visiting your family beforehand?”

He didn’t answer my question, but asked me instead.
“Oh, that. I could handle visiting my family alone. Besides, I understand you’re busy. And well, you’ve seen what my family is like. I didn’t wan to trouble you!”
Hugo’s face was exp
expressionless. “If you’re afraid of troubling me, I shouldn’t have gotten married.”
Huh? What does he mean?
When we got home, the Old Madam wasn’t there,
“Where’s Grandma?”
Mrs. Sun told me that the Old Madam had gone home, saying she wanted to give us newlyweds some space.
“Ma’am, the master is calling for you!”
Hugo was standing on the second floor, having changed into a formal suit at some point, radiating a different kind of charm.
I came to him and looked him up and down. “Going out?”
He showed a hint of helplessness, “There are clothes in the bedroom. Go change.
It was a black off–shoulder gown, in my size.
After putting it on, I was stunned by my reflection in the mirror and couldn’t help but apply some light makeup.
I thought Hugo was going to take me to some evening event, but he surprisingly led me by the hand to the reception room on the third floor.
The lights suddenly went out, and soon small flames lit up in front of us.
Candlelight illuminated the dining table, with flowers, red wine, and a Western–style dinner…
