Chapter 8
“Callie, going home alone isn’t a good idea. You should stay in the hospital a little longer for observation,” Robin suggested.
I refused coldly. “Nope. I can take care of myself.”
A flicker of hurt crossed Robin‘ s face, but he quickly softened his tone. “Callie, I’m worried about you. Please don’t be mad at me, okay?”
But that only made me look and glare at him. “Do you even know why I got hit by that car?”
He seemed confused. “I’ve already filed a case against the driver.”
“And what about Caitline? The one who caused all of this–is she just going to get away with it?”
He stood there, his expression froze like he’d been struck by lightning, before

grabbing my hand tightly. “I…I didn‘ t know about that,” he anxiously explained. “I’ll look into it. Please, give me some time.”
I didn’t feel like listening to any more of his excuses, so I just said, “Oh, yeah? Well, you’d better.”
Then I added sharply, “Now get out of here. I don’t want to see you again.”
For the next few days, Robin didn’t show up in my hospital room, but traces of him were everywhere.
When I woke up in the morning, there was hot soup waiting for me, freshly replaced bouquets, and neatly folded clothes by the bed–clear signs that he’d been there.
On the day I was discharged, Robin showed up right on time.
I wasn’t sure if he was just shameless, but no matter how cold I was toward him, he didn’t get mad at me.

“Hey, I’m here to take you home,” he said, nervous but trying to sound calm.
I didn’t even spare him a glance, walking past him and out of the hospital building.
He followed closely behind, eager as ever.
“Callie, let me give you a ride home.”
I didn’t refuse–it saved me the trouble.
But the moment we reached my apartment door, I turned and blocked his way. “This is my home. You‘ re not coming in.”
The distance in my tone hit him hard. His chest seemed to tighten as he stood there.
He reached for my hand, but I dodged him. His eyes quickly reddened, and he looked at me like I hurt him. “Callie, I’m so sorry. I never thought…”
Then he begged, “Hit me or yell at me- just don’t shut me out. Don’t leave me, please.”
But all he got in return was the loud slam of the iron door shutting in his face.

The next morning, on my way to school, I spotted him slumped against the wall outside my building.
I noticed the dark circles under his eyes like he hadn’t slept all night.
When he saw me, his face lit up, and he held out a bag of breakfast.
I glanced at him briefly and walked past him without taking it.
He trailed after me, rambling, “Callie, you must be hungry. I specially bought this breakfast for you. It s all your favorite! Come on, take a bite while it’s warm.”
I ignored him all the way to school, but he was persistent in following me.
The moment we walked onto the campus, people around us stared in surprise. Soon, the rumors had spread.
When Caitline arrived in the classroom, her face was grim.
She glared at me with cold fury. “You

shameless bitch!”
She raised her hand to slap me, but it was stopped mid–air.
“What the hell are you doing, Caitline? Are you trying to hurt her again right in front of me?” Robin snapped.
I couldn’t help the bitter smirk that crept onto my face. Even now, Caitline hasn’t faced any real consequences for what she’d done.
Then, he said, “You’ll pay for everything you’ve done.”
Caitline’s face turned as pale as a ghost. Her legs wobbled, and she looked like she might collapse. “No, Rob, you don’t understand! I did it all for you!”
But Robin’s expression twisted in disgust. He frowned, replying, “Don‘ t use me as an excuse. Stay away from Callie.”
