Chapter 8
[Tsk, a living person with no self–respect. If I were her, I’d be too ashamed to keep living.]
[She’s free now, but you, you shameless bitch! How dare you still live?]
I didn’t reply to any of Brianna’s messages. Instead, I saved every video and screenshot and went to the cops the next day.
The cops listened to everything and called in Brianna and her agency to assist with the investigation.
When Brianna arrived, she started crying and claimed she was innocent. She said she
only faked those videos to deliberately make me mad.
Tears ran down her face as she acted
heartbroken. “Nellie, I took such good care
of Auntie when she was alive. I didn’t dare
slack off even for a moment. Didn’t she
always praise me to you?”

She kept going, “I admit we’ve had issues, and yes, I faked those videos out of anger.
That was wrong, and I’m sorry. But this is a personal matter. Using public resources for this? That’s on you.”
The officer kindly explained to me that the videos were low–quality and could easily be dismissed as fake. With Mom gone and the agency avoiding blame, the outcome wasn’t looking good. He suggested I settle it privately.
I wasn’t willing to give up. I talked to several lawyers, but none of them could change the situation.
When I left the station, I saw Noel in the distance. Brianna ran up to him, holding his hand with a big smile. “Noel, you’re
here!”
He mumbled a quiet “Yeah” without even looking at me.
I stared at them, and suddenly, it all made sense. I walked over and shouted, “You’re

behind this, aren’t you?!”
Noel avoided my eyes, but Brianna answered first, looking proud. “What do you mean by ‘behind this‘? Noel and I have been close for years. Of course, he’d help me!”
Her arrogant expression didn’t make me. angry–it just felt ridiculous and sad. My voice shook as I said, “Noel, Mom treated you like her own son. And this is how you repay her?”
“Come on,” Brianna said sharply, her voice full of disdain. “Who’d want to be her son?
Don’t flatter yourself, dear!”
Then, she glared at me. “Cornelia, if it weren’t for Noel, you and your mom would’ve been who–knows–where by now. You’ve been relying on others your whole life, so stop pretending to be so righteous!”
“Rian, enough!” Noel cut her off. “Don’t talk to your sister–in–law like that!”
Brianna pouted and walked off angrily.

Noel turned to me, looking nervous. “Nellie, what Rian said just now was too much. I apologize for her.”
He glanced at me carefully, trying to read my face. “Don’t worry. After today, I’ll cut ties with her completely. I won’t let her bother us again.”
I stared right at him. “You knew, didn’t you?”
He froze for a second.
“You knew how Brianna mistreated Mom. You knew those videos were real. But you still chose to help her get away with it.”
My voice was quiet but trembling. “All that talk about the videos being fake–you’ve been covering for her this whole time.”
“Nellie, listen to me.” He grabbed my shoulders, almost begging. “Your mom has already passed away. No matter how much we fight, it won’t change anything. Rian is still young, and the internet can be cruel. Rumors like this could ruin her entire life
