Chapter 10
When I got back home, the scene at the front door made my stomach churn. Red paint was splashed everywhere, and the door was covered in knife marks.
The neighbors across the hall were too scared to come out and quickly called the
cops.
The cops arrived and took the troublemakers in for questioning.
Thanks to my security cam footage, everything was caught.
After a few rounds of questioning, they admitted that Brianna was the one who
sent them.
When I saw her again at the station, she looked nothing like the bitch from before. She was furious and out of control, yelling threats and insults at me. She accused me of defamation and swore she’d sue me,
saying she’d ruin my life and expose my

“true colors” to everyone.
Watching her lose her composure like that, I couldn’t help but laugh.
Well, this is just the beginning.
That same night, Noel called me. His voice sounded drained like he’d finally been worn down.
“Cornelia, you want a divorce, right?” he said. “Fine. I’ll agree, but only if you clear things up. I supported you and your mom these past two years. What happened between you and Brianna has nothing to do with me.”
So much for childhood sweethearts. When things got tough, he was the first to save his
own skin.
It was pathetic, really.
We agreed to meet at the Family Court. When I saw him, he looked like a mess- hollow–eyed, unshaven, and thinner than I remembered. It looked like he hadn’t had a

proper rest in days.
He seemed like he wanted to say something, but I didn’t give him the chance. I went straight in, signed the papers, and got the divorce certificate.
With the certificate in hand, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. But as I turned to leave, he stopped me.
“Nellie,” he said, looking hesitant. “About everything that happened… I’m sorry. I really am. I never wanted it to turn out this way. I just… I don’t know. I’m sorry.”
“You should be apologizing to Mom,” I said coldly. “And congratulations. I hope you and Brianna grow old together.”
As I walked away, I noticed him still standing there, staring at me like he wanted to say more. But I just pulled out my phone and made a call.
“It’s time,” I said.
Within minutes, reporters swarmed him

from all directions.
“Mr. Seyfertt, is what they’re saying about you and Brianna Bridgers online true?”
“Can you confirm if you conspired with Brianna Bridgers to kill your wife’s mother?”
“Now that you’ve agreed to a divorce, were there any conditions attached? Did you try to bargain your way out of this?”
His expression shifted from anger to panic. He tried to push his way through the crowd, but the reporters stuck to him like glue. The more he tried to escape, the more people gathered around, snapping pictures. and hurling questions.
Spectators joined in, shouting accusations. and insults. Noel eventually snapped, screaming at the crowd, “You don’t know anything! Stop making things up! Get out of my face! All of you!”
But it was no use.

Later that night, Noel finally made it back. home. When he opened the door, he found Brianna smashing everything in sight.
“Cornelia, you bitch!” she screamed, throwing things across the room. “I’ll make you pay for this! Just wait! I swear I’ll kill you!”
When she saw the divorce certificate in his
hand, she rushed over to him. “Well? Did you record anything useful?”
But instead of answering, Noel’s face darkened. Without a word, he walked past her, went to the bedroom, and started throwing her belongings into the hallway.
“Get out,” he said coldly. “You’re not staying here anymore.”
“What?” she shrieked, stunned. “Are you kicking me out? After everything? I can’t go back to my family because of you, and now

you’re throwing me out?”
“Because of me? Brianna, you better watch what you say,” he snapped. “Was I the one who told you to mistreat Nellie’s mom? You did this to yourself. If it weren’t for me covering for you, you’d already be in jail!”
