Chapter 4
I like Ethan.
In addition to his gorgeous look, the acquiescence from both our parents. contributed to my commitment that we meant to be together.
We were inseparable in high school, and at one point even our teacher thought we were in a relationship and mentioned it to
our parents.
“You mean they are dating each other?” When Freya heard this, she seemed more interested than worried.
She couldn’t even suppress the smile.
“It’s okay, as long as it doesn’t affect their studies. It’s up to them. Sophia’s mother and I both agree to their relationship,” Freya said.
I still remembered how embarrassed that teacher looked like on the day he finished

the call with Freya.
Due to what happened on that day, Ethan and I became a “couple” that would not be disrupted by others.
I liked Ethan, and he knew it.
And naturally, we became a real couple.
But I never heard his opinion about me.
He was more of a let–it–takes–it kind of person who happened to accept my love.
If someone made fun of my relationship with him, that would be Larry Garcia,
Ethan’s pal.
When he got drunk, he always brought up what happened in high school.
cour
“You know we wanted to date our
girlfriends without being criticized by teachers just like you, right, Ethan?” said Larry at a party.
People who were curious would ask him about the whole story.

And then, Larry would blurt out everything like a wind–up doll.
“It’s his love, Sophia! They’ve been together since high school, and both of their parents. agreed to their relationship at that time. Isn’t that amazing?” he said.
Every time he talked about that, Ethan would stop him like a cat with its tail being stamped on.
“It’s just kidding. Sophia was like my best pal in high school. Would you date your best pal?” he said.
After hearing what he said, all the people present fixed their eyes on me as well as Ethan, waiting for my acknowledgement.
It felt like there was a thorn stuck in my
throat.
I said it almost through gritted teeth,
“Yeah.”
In previous years, my family would not celebrate my birthday because my birthday

was also my father, Harold Clark’s death anniversary.
On the way to buy me a birthday present,
he had a car accident and never came
back.
Laura never blamed me, but she always
looked at me with hidden sorrow.
The experiment today did not go smoothly at all, and Taylor gave me two days off to have a good rest.
Thinking of the date, I accepted his kindness and planned to go home and spend some time with Laura, only to find she had prepared a birthday party for me.
Many aunts and uncles as well as Ethan and Freya attended it.
Laura pulled me in and said, “Happy birthday, Sophia!”
