Chapter 20
After the hangover, Krista slept until the afternoon.
Kylie had already gone to work. After a simple lunch, she felt a bit bored, so she picked up her bag and went out, intending to finish a few tasks she had planned a few days ago.
She picked up a fruit basket at the downstairs fruit shop and took a taxi directly to the law firm to meet Elvis.
In the past two months, Elvis devoted a lot to her divorce and also ensured her information security by abiding by the law. He acted as a mediator and conveyed many messages, probably frequently advising Frankie, so that she could successfully get divorced.
Many things he did had already gone beyond the duties of a lawyer, and Krista always felt that she had caused him a lot of trouble. She felt a bit guilty and decided to personally go to his house to express her gratitude.
Upon learning that the two individuals had already obtained their divorce certificate, Elvis’s face displayed a regretful expression.
“Mrs. Barnes, why did you hide it from me back then?”
Krista sincerely apologized to Elvis, while apologizing, she also didn’t forget to correct his slip of the tongue.
“We have already divorced, so it’s actually inappropriate to call me Mrs. Barnes. Elvis, if you don’t mind, you can just call me Krista.”
“I actually didn’t intend to hide it from you, but as you know, he and 1 had a secret marriage that wasn’t made public I didn’t want to put you in a difficult position, which is why I didn’t inform you about this matter.”
When it came to secret marriage, Elvis could understand her and therefore did not ask further about it.
“Yes, it’s all Frankie’s fault. He shouldn’t have kept it from us. I heard you were long–time classmates, and you divorced so hastily. I’m afraid the emotional baggage hasn’t been resolved, right? Are you really not planning to keep in touch anymore?”
This question touched Krista’s heart.
Before yesterday, she had intended to cut off contact with Frankie.
But seeing his attitude yesterday, she felt it would be difficult to completely break up.
Not to mention the layer of classmates‘ relationship, just explaining clearly to her parents after the divorce was giving her a headache.
Given her parents‘ temperament, they would probably find Frankie and make a fuss before they would give up. By then, they would definitely have to explain to him in advance
It seems that we will never have any contact again until everything is settled.
After understanding, Krista also wanted to sigh, but she held it back.
“We were together for three years, never had an argument or a fight, and the divorce went quite smoothly. We can’t be considered a bitter couple, but we can’t go back to how things were before either. As for what will happen in the future, it’s hard to say. We might stay in touch, or we might go our separate ways.”
Elvis felt a slight sense of relief when he realized that she had not definitively spoken.
During this past half month, Frankie was driven crazy in order to avoid getting divorced
He was worried to some extent that his disciple, who was brought up by him, would collapse after the divorce.
But looking at the current situation, it seems that we haven’t reached the desperate situation of being at the end of our resources. There should still be room for a turnaround, right?
Elvis was also unsure, but for the sake of Frankle’s later life, he still tried to support him by saying a few kind words.
The two people exchanged a few more greetings, and then Krista got up and bid farewell.
Elvis opened the door for her, but he was startled by the sudden appearance of Frankde, clutching his heart and pounding nonstop.
“What were you doing lading outside my office?
Frankle’s gaze passed over him and fixed directly on Krista inside.
MEASUJOL uside
Elvis finally realized what was happening and quickly stepped aside, asking Krista to leave and swiftly closing the door.
Krista was also startled by him.
She had specifically asked Elvis before coming, knowing that he was on vacation that day, just to avoid him.
Who would have thought that he didn’t know where he received the news from and ran over?
She had two more social gatherings coming up and didn’t want to argue with him here, so she straightforwardly asked him to step aside.
Frankie took two steps aside and without hesitation, she went downstairs.
As soon as I stepped out, it started pouring heavily without me knowing when, and the water on the street was knee–deep.
Staring at the empty streets, Krista was stunned.
She took out her phone and tried to hail a taxi, but after ten minutes of calling, no taxi accepted the request.
And the rain kept getting heavier, with no sign of stopping. The weather forecast also said it would not stop until seven or eight in the evening
