Chapter 5
I got a new phone and installed new social media apps.
I thought I would never have to deal with Connor again in this lifetime.
The first project I took on after returning was a collaboration with a major domestic corporation.
My dad smiled at me, saying, “When you argued with me back then, I did some self- reflection. Our family did indeed prosper from the benefits of our country. Although we developed our business overseas, it was out of necessity. Now that we have the capability, we should support more domestic enterprises.”
Hearing him support my past ideas made me very happy.
On the day of the business trip back to our home country, Jeff insisted on coming
along.

He claimed our parents had given him some important mission.
When the plane landed, the collaborating company sent a handsome man to pick us
- up.
He greeted, “Ms. Levy, nice to meet you. I’m Jake Foster. You can call me Jake.”
He extended his hand, smiling at me. His white teeth and dimples were attractive.
I stood there, stunned.
Jeff grabbed my hand and placed it in Jake’s.
“Nice to meet you, Jake. This is my sister, Tara, currently single.”
Jeff’s introduction sounded like a
matchmaking session, snapping me back to reality.
I turned to glare at him, only to realize my hand was still in Jake’s.
I quickly pulled my hand away, smiling

awkwardly.
Jake naturally took my luggage and handed it to his assistant, leading us out.
Throughout the journey, he spoke eloquently, his voice warm and pleasant.
Somehow, our conversation turned to our
views on business, and we found our ideas surprisingly aligned.
After we checked into the hotel, he left.
Jeff tried to invite him in for coffee but
failed.
I rolled my eyes at Jeff. “What? Do you have
a crush on him?
“Let me remind you, if you dare come out, Dad will send you away.”
He stared at me for a long time before sighing, “I hate that you’re so dense.”
I was speechless.
I ignored his banter and opened my laptop to review the collaboration project

proposal.
The proposal was quite complex. According to Jake’s ideas, they planned to divide the project into smaller parts and delegate them to multiple subsidiaries.
This would not only support new enterprises but also significantly speed up the project timeline.
I was engrossed in the proposal when there was a knock at the hotel room door.
I looked over at Jeff, who was sleeping like a log. I had to get up to answer the door myself.
Seeing Connor at the door, I instinctively tried to close it.
Connor reacted quickly, holding the door frame with one hand and pushing the door open with the other.
He said, “Tara, I just want to talk to you.”
I said, “We have nothing to talk about.”

Although I was no match for his strength, I refused to give in, determined to keep him
out.
I didn’t know how he found me, but seeing him again felt like bad luck.
Just as we were at a stalemate, Jeff, rubbing his sleepy eyes, appeared at the entrance.
He asked, “Who is it?”
Connor and I both looked at him.
Two minutes later, Connor glared at me, gritting his teeth.
He said, “Tara, is this the kind of immature kid you left me for? When did your taste become so bad?”
Jeff instantly sobered up, pointing at Connor and cursing, “What the hell did you just say?”
Jeff had two major pet peeves. One was people talking badly about me, and the other was being called an immature kid.

Connor had hit both.
To prevent Jeff from getting physical, I quickly blocked the door.
Jeff couldn’t get out and didn’t dare push me, so he jumped up and down in frustration.
Connor, however, continued to provoke Jeff.
“Your mouth stinks and your temper sucks,” he said.
“What the hell? You’re asking for a lesson,” Jeff cursed.
To stop Jeff from attacking, I bit Connor’s
arm.
Connor winced in pain and let go, allowing me to close the door.
Jeff tried to chase after Connor, but I gave him a hard shove.
I sulked, “Are you crazy? You’ll get arrested for fighting.”
