After pondering for a while, Charles took his phone and went to the restroom.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Once Charles discovered the truth, I could finally leave.
The bridal shop’s restroom was unisex, so anyone could enter.
I overheard Emily bragging, “I initially wanted James to blow up Grace to vent. Who knew Grace was useless? Charles never loved her; he always loved me. So James ended up capturing me again.”
“I described everything so vividly back then. What a pity.”
After hearing this, Charles returned to the bridal shop’s lobby. I was shocked to find myself unable to follow Charles, instead lingering near Emily. The perspective shifted abruptly.
When Emily and her friends returned to the lobby, Charles was looking at wedding dresses.
Seeing her come out, Charles smiled, “Darling, you look beautiful in this one. How about we choose it?”
Emily was surprised but then smiled sweetly.
“Whatever you say, love. The wedding dress is meant for you to see.”
After deciding on the dress, Charles seemed like a different person. He took charge of all the wedding arrangements and was incredibly attentive to Emily.
Emily thought Charles had finally “woken up” and was delighted.
The day before the wedding, Charles called Emily to his house, saying he had a surprise for her.
Emily thought Charles was going to propose before the wedding, since she had always been the one initiating. She got dressed up and hurried over.
Charles’s house was dimly lit, and he stood in the shadows. He looked at Emily, pointed to a chair in the middle of the living room, “Darling, have a seat.”
Emily was even more excited, sitting down as Charles blindfolded her with a tie. She didn’t suspect a thing, feeling shy instead.
“What are you doing, silly?”
I stood behind Emily, seeing everything clearly. Charles’s face was cold, chilling enough to make one shiver.
He picked up some wires, wrapping them around Emily.
Emily was puzzled, “What is this?”
Charles’s voice was gentle, “A gift for you.”
I saw clearly that Charles was wrapping bomb wires around her.
Then he placed the bomb in Emily’s hands, “Ready to unwrap your gift?”
Emily nodded eagerly as Charles removed the tie.
She eagerly prepared to receive her gift but saw the nightmare-like bomb in her hands.
“Husband, what are you doing? This isn’t funny.”
Charles smirked, “Who said I was joking? I just wanted you to feel Grace’s pain.”
“When she was blown up, it must have hurt so much. She was carrying our child.”
“We could’ve married, lived happily ever after.”
Emily trembled uncontrollably, “What does this have to do with me?”
Charles stared at her, his years at the police station showing, “How did James know where Grace was?”
Emily’s eyes flickered with guilt, “I don’t know, I really don’t.”
Charles picked up the remote, “Don’t know? Then I’ll press it now, and you can ask James.”
Emily screamed, quickly admitting, “It was me! I told him. But love, if I hadn’t, I would’ve been the one blown up.”
Charles smiled, satisfied, and I felt the chains binding me loosen. I seemed to be able to leave them now.
Charles then pressed the bomb.
The massive explosion shattered the furniture, and both Charles and Emily died on the spot.
Later, the news reported that the third-class merit holder and his fiancée both died in a house explosion. The bomb was from the infamous bomb case of the past year.
The End
