Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Ethan looked at the woman before him, but in his mind, all he could see were the images of Kathleen–her shy, aggrieved expressions that had once made his heart flutter.
He recalled the last message Kathleen had sent him: a simple “Okay.”
Suddenly, anger surged through him as he grabbed Catherine’s hand. “Did you say something to Kathleen after? Otherwise, why would she suddenly become so heartless? Also, you look awful in this wedding dress! It doesn’t even compare to her!”
Ethan, after angrily scolding Catherine, turned and made to leave.
Catherine desperately reached out, trying to

But Ethan roughly pushed her away, throwing her to the ground. Without a second glance, he stormed out of the wedding venue.
After dinner with Luke, he took me to the Mitchel Family home, where I met several of their elders. He then introduced me to all his friends, making sure everyone knew of my presence, giving me a sense of security I had never felt before.
It wasn’t until the whole evening event ended that I had the time to check my phone.
Only then did I notice that my best friend, Sophia, had called me dozens of times.
I called her back and as soon as the call connected, I heard her voice, trembling with
tears.
Chapter 8
“Kate, you finally answered my call… I thought, I thought you would never talk to me again… Kate, I’m really sorry. I never imagined my brother would have kept your relationship with him a secret for eight years and made you suffer in silence…”
I had always thought that my past with Ethan would be buried with his marriage, never to be known again.
But, as people said, the truth always came out eventually.
“Sophia, it’s not your fault. I was just too caught up in the relationship before. Now that your brother’s ‘true love‘ has returned, I, as the substitute, should have stepped aside long ago.”
“It’s not like that, Kate. You’re amazing; the

problem lies entirely with my scumbag brother! And my brother… after finding out today that you’re getting married, directly canceled the wedding and said he’s going to find you. He’s probably already on his way to Brightvale now.”
“I know my brother might be a good sibling, but in relationships, the way he treated you before clearly shows he’s not a good match for you. Our family truly owes you too much. My parents and I feel deeply sorry for everything you’ve been through…”
Hearing that Ethan had canceled his wedding, I was a little surprised, but I couldn’t say I felt much emotional upheaval.
From the moment I decided to let go, he had already ceased to matter to me.

Moreover, now…
I turned my gaze toward Luke, who, upon hearing me cough lightly, had rushed to the stove to roast tangerines for me.
Comforting the deeply apologetic Sophia, I said gently, “Let the past stay in the past. I’ve now met someone truly wonderful. Sophia, we’ll both find happiness in the future.”
Early the next morning, Luke came to pick me up to go to the City Hall and register our marriage.
He said he wanted to give me the grandest wedding, something that would take time to make perfect.
So, we decided to get our marriage certificate first and hold the wedding later.
Chapter 8
As we arrived at the entrance of the City Hall, Luke held my hand as we stepped out of the car and headed inside.
Suddenly, Ethan rushed out from the side. His bloodshot eyes and disheveled appearance made him look utterly desperate.
“Kate! You can’t go in! You can’t marry him!” Luke frowned and immediately pulled me into his arms protectively. The bodyguards in the car quickly got out, ready to respond.
Luke looked at me and asked, “Kate, who is this? Do you know him?”
“Kind of,” I replied. “He’s my former boss.”
That single sentence seemed to drive Ethan into madness. “No, that’s not true! We were never just a boss and subordinate!”
