Chapter 7
In the days since returning to Brightvale, my mother had been constantly finding ways to buy me delicious food and fun things.
Whenever she saw clothes or jewelry that she thought would suit me, she would
immediately place an order and have them sent to the house.
Ten years ago, after her divorce from my father, she moved to Brightvale to start hèr own business.
Not being able to keep me by her side still remained a knot in her heart to this day.
That’s why, all these years, she’d been constantly urging me to come to Brightvale to be with her and now she couldn’t wait to give

“Mom, it wasn’t entirely your fault before. It was also because I wasted so many years for someone who wasn’t worth it. You’ve already been more than enough to me.”
My mother looked at me with a face full of concern. “I used to think that kid from the Clark Family would always protect you, just like before. I never expected him to turn out to be such a disgrace! If I had known he was such a person, I would have persuaded you to come back long ago!”
She smiled in relief. “But don’t worry, honey. The young man from the Mitchel Family you’re about to marry has an excellent
character, one of the best in the entire

Brightvale. Not to mention their family’s power and well–established family values. From now on, you will only live a life where you’ll be cherished and pampered in the palm of someone’s hand!”
I nodded, my gaze falling on the wedding announcement photo that the Mitchel Group’s official account posted earlier this morning. I haven’t met him in person yet.
For now, I could only judge his appearance from the photo. His features were well- defined and handsome, with an imposing presence.
He did indeed seem like a respectable person. And given my mother’s years of experience in business, I also trusted her judgment when it came to people.

Chapter 7
At lunchtime, it was my first formal meeting with Luke.
As soon as he entered, he handed me a bouquet of jasmine flowers, their vibrant petals full of life.
“How did you know…?”
“Understanding my future wife’s preferences is simply part of my responsibility.” With a soft smile, Luke smoothly steered the conversation away from the question.
There was no arrogance or self–satisfaction in his actions, just a sense of it being natural.
Someone who truly respected and cared for me always considered my needs first. Unfortunately, it took me eight years to understand this simple truth.

During the meal, Luke was incredibly thoughtful. Just as I felt a bit thirsty, he had already served me a glass of water.
Every time his gaze landed on a dish, he would use the serving spoon to carefully pick some up for me, placing it on my plate in a way that made it easy for me to take.
The large shrimp, which I found troublesome and didn’t want to eat, was swiftly peeled by him and arranged into a small mound in front of me. I honestly couldn’t imagine that a young master from a wealthy family could possess such meticulous and thoughtful
manners.
In response to my surprise, he simply smiled and said, “For someone worthy, what I’ve done is still far from enough.”
Chapter 7
The unease I had about marrying a stranger seemed to vanish completely after meeting Luke in person.
Mom was right; he really was a great person.
As for the marriage registration tomorrow, I suddenly felt much less worried. In fact, I even began to feel a faint sense of anticipation for this new chapter of my life.
Meanwhile, on the other side, when Ethan saw the photos on his friend’s phone, his face was filled with disbelief.
“How is this possible? How could Kathleen marry someone else?”
Ethan was panicked, taking out his phone, eager to contact Kathleen and get to the bottom of the situation.

It was then that Ethan realized that all his
contact details had been blocked by her.
In a frantic rush, he ran to Sophia.
“Where is Kathleen? Where is she now?” he
demanded.
Sophia looked at him in confusion.
“Ethan, I already told you at the last family gathering,” she said. “Kate’s mom has arranged a very good marriage for her. She’s gone to Brightvale these past few days to prepare for the marriage registration.”
Ethan finally realized that everything was true. Kathleen was not lying–she was really going to marry someone else.
In a fit of rage, he slammed the phone in his hand onto the ground. “How dare she leave

me without my permission! How dare she
marry someone else!”
“Ethan, what do you mean by that? Kate is just your secretary. What’s wrong with her getting married?” Sophia asked, confused.
Ethan had completely lost his usual composure. He shouted in a complete breakdown to his family. “Who says she’s just my secretary? Kathleen has been with me for eight years! She could never let go of me. I won’t allow her to marry anyone else! I’m going to bring her back!”
Everyone present, including Sophia and the rest of the Clark Family, was stunned by Ethan’s words. They couldn’t believe it. Ethan had been in a relationship with Kathleen for eight years and no one had

known about it.
After he finished speaking, Ethan immediately tried to leave.
For the first time, his mother scolded him sternly. “Ethan! You‘ ve wasted a good girl‘ s years! This has already happened and there’s nothing we can do about it now. Now, Miss Johnson has already found a good match and your wedding is about to start. Are you really going to make a scene now?”
Ethan clutched his hair, his face full of anguish.
At that moment, Catherine, hearing the commotion, stepped out in her wedding dress. She looked confused, not knowing what had happened and shyly gazed at Ethan. “Ethan, this wedding dress you helped me

pick out. Do I look beautiful? Is this the way
you imagined I’d look?”
