Chapter 6
Before boarding the plane, I changed my
itinerary.
The thought of my parents‘ plane crash made my palms sweat with anxiety.
After calling my brother, I booked a cross- country train and canceled my flight.
The train would pass through three countries. The views were incredible, but reaching my destination would take a week.
After purchasing two first–class
compartments, I packed my bags and set
off for Blouver station.
Meanwhile, Julian‘ s group chat was in chaos.
Having blocked Julian on every platform, he could no longer reach me. Desperate, he turned to the group chat, where I was still a member.

He asked me where I had gone and why my luggage was missing.
He told me not to be stubborn, saying he had already explained everything to Jennie and asked me to return.
His friends chimed in, urging me to return.
Only Daniel softly said, “Julian, I think both you and Jennie owe Wanda an apology.”
Once again, Daniel’s single sentence silenced the entire group.
I smirked and quietly exited the chat.
When Daniel texted me, I thanked him and told him I’d unfriended everyone except him. I begged him to keep our connection
a secret.
He sounded a bit gloomy but told me to take care of myself.
I would because there were still so many people who truly loved me.
On the train, I saw endless grasslands

stretching and lakes mirroring the sky.
As the train pulled further away from Bristan, my mood brightened as if a cloud had lifted.
After two restless days cooped up in the compartment, I ventured outside.
A casual stroll led me to the outdoor observation deck.
The wind whipped across the deck and it was nearly deserted at this time of year.
As I approached, the only person there was a tall, slender man quietly sketching.
His drawing was a pencil sketch, yet it felt remarkably vivid.
Leaning against the railing, I found myself mesmerized without even realizing it, as if the scenery he captured in his sketch was more accurate than the one before me.
After a long time, he stopped drawing and chuckled.

“Miss, aren’t you planning to head back yet? You‘ ve been out in the wind so long- might end up with a headache tomorrow.”
His voice jolted me from my thoughts, leaving me both surprised and flustered.
“You … knew I was here this whole time?”
“My ears are quite sharp. I heard you as soon as you stepped out.”
He turned to me with a smile.
His face was clean–cut and handsome, with a sunny smile that added a bit of shyness.
When I returned to my senses, he had already carried his drawing board and stood before me.
“Let’s head back, Miss. If you want to watch me paint again, come back tomorrow.”
“Okay. By the way, my name is Zack Griffin. What’s yours?”
Standing stiffly, I moved aside to let him pass.

“Wanda Young.”
“Beautiful name—so poetic.”
“Thank you!”
We chatted idly as we walked back and when we reached the door to our
compartment, we found ourselves standing right next to each other.
He didn’t say anything cliché like, ‘What a coincidence!‘ Instead, he just smiled. “That’s great. It’ll be easier to call you over when I go back to painting.”
But when he came to call me the next day, just as he’d predicted, I was down with a cold!
When Zack found out, he ran to ask the conductor for some medicine and came to take care of me.
