Alexa nodded, but I chose not to dwell on the issue any longer. After all, they were mates, and it was not my place to interfere in their lives anymore.
I suggested Alexa share everything she had told me with Deryl and Evan, so the situation could be investigated properly.
That was why, after that, we made our way to the Alpha’s office.
As we entered, I noticed how Alexa‘ s usual composure had shattered. She was a completely different person from the authoritative woman I once knew in the Nightshade Pack.
At that moment, she looked small, vulnerable, and her voice shaky as she explained the events to Deryl and Evan.
“You don’t need to be afraid, Alexa,” I said softly, trying to ease her nerves. “We won’t harm you, and we will protect you

anyone tries to pursue you here. But from what the guards have investigated so far, no one is following you, so you can calm down.”
Alexa nodded, her trembling subsiding as she continued speaking, that time with a bit more confidence.
She explained the ambush, the rogue attack, and Jeremy‘ s capture. Evan, ever the swift strategist, began reaching out to Betas from neighboring packs, gathering intel and support.
Just as we were wrapping up the discussion, Evan hurriedly entered the room. His eyes flickered toward me, then Alexa, before he whispered something to Deryl.
Although Alexa could not hear him, I could, thanks to the twin connection we shared.
But Evan’s words made my heart race. He informed Deryl that several Alphas from

nearby packs had gone to Grimfur Pack and hadn’t returned.
The ambiguity surrounding their whereabouts, along with Jeremy‘ s capture, cast a heavy shadow over everything.
However, Deryl remained calm, his voice steady as he addressed Alexa. “I can‘ t promise that Jeremy is fine, Alexa. We don’t know what’s happening in the Grimfur Pack right now.
“But several Alphas will soon gather here for an important meeting. When that happens, can you serve as a witness for what happened at Grimfur, as well as the rogue attacks in Nightshade?”
Alexa clenched her fists, the worry for Jeremy clear in her eyes. “Yes, Alpha, I’m willing,” she replied, her voice thick with determination.
Sensing the conversation had reached its conclusion, I stepped in. “Since we have

covered everything, I think Alexa needs to rest. I will take her to my house, is it okay?”
Deryl and Evan nodded in unison. I knew they could not discuss anything further in front of her, considering she was from another Pack. It was better to give them space to strategize while I took care of Alexa.
After helping Alexa clean up, she sat on the edge of the bed, looking exhausted but still burdened with the weight of everything that had happened.
Everly, thank you for everything,” she whispered. “I know this must hurt you, and I’m sorry. I couldn’t control any of it. If….”
I cut her off, not wanting to hear her apologies or explanations. “It’s fine,” I said, keeping my voice even.
“Since the day I married Jeremy, I knew one of us would eventually find our true

mate. I just… I still can’t understand why you both hid it from me, and maybe even from Adrian. But I don‘ t need an
explanation. Just rest. I have got things to do.”
Without waiting for a response, I left the room and quietly closed the door behind me. Once alone, I let the tears fall, tears I had been holding back for far too long.
Never in my life did I imagine I would be letting Alexa, the woman who stole Jeremy from me, sleep in my house.
But what choice did I have? She was pregnant, after all, and that only solidified the bond between her and Jeremy. I had to move on, no matter how hard it was.

The Alpha meeting soon arrived. I accompanied Alexa, though I remained outside the tense room filled with Alphas.
Inside, Alexa gave her testimony, pleading with them to take action.

Evan later told me that the Alphas moved swiftly, forming an investigation team to head to Grimfur Pack.
He also mentioned that he had contacted the Betas of the missing Alphas, instructing them to increase security in their territories.
There was a growing fear that whatever was happening in the Pack near the Grimfur Pack might soon spread after all.
Alexa emerged from the meeting looking pale, as though life had been drained from her.
“Are you okay?” I asked, though my tone was neutral, offering no hint of sympathy.
Alexa nodded weakly. “Yeah, I’m fine. Can I borrow your phone? I need to call Ericka. I’m worried about her.”
Without a word, I handed her my phone and left for the academy, trying to focus on work, though my mind kept drifting back to the meeting.

Later, Evan pulled me aside, sharing everything he had learned from the
meeting.
“The investigation team will mostly consist of Gammas and their troops,” he explained. “But Alpha Deryl feels
responsible for suggesting the investigation and has decided to lead the team himself.”
I stared at Evan, my heart sinking. “Are you sure everything will be safe?” I asked, a hint of desperation in my voice.
Evan’s face was troubled, betraying his own worries. “Let’s just pray it will be.”
His uncertainty only heightened my own fears. “Why? You don’t think the investigation will be safe?” I found myself raising my voice, a storm of emotions swirling inside me.
