Chapter 4
The engagement ceremony ended quickly.
Next, it was time for the guests to eat, drink, and socialize, building connections.
Serena went around the tables with Alden, offering a toast to each person. Everyone was very
flattering towards Serena.
I just took some time to learn about the Lynch family of Castlepond. It’s true that they are the richest, but they lack depth and can be considered nouveau riche.
The Lynch family was able to rise to power because they had connections in Fieldkeep, and then they secured many major projects in Castlepond, which made them the wealthiest family in Castlepond.
However, the Lynch family never managed to break into the lit circle of Castlepond.
That is to say, the people who came today were all a group of followers of the Lynch family, as well as guests of the Alden family.
As for the Alden family, they were considered a noble family in Castlepond, but they have already
declined.
The marriage between the Willis family and the Lynch family was a mutually beneficial
arrangement.
What the Lynch family wanted was a ticket to enter the upper–class circle. By marrying a man from a prominent family, it was like obtaining that ticket.
What the Willis family wanted was nothing but money, hoping to make a comeback with it.
I have seen too many marriages like this since I was young, so I am not surprised.
In fact, looking back at history, throughout the dynasties and generations, there have been too
many occurrences like this.
Marriage had always been hard.
At that moment, a young girl who appeared to be only sixteen or seventeen years old sat beside me.
She was sweet and lovely, with a little baby fat on her face, which made her especially adorable.
And between the eyebrows and eyes, it is very similar to Alden.
“My name is Norah Willis; I was your ex–boyfriend’s sister.”
“Stop talking from now on and come with me,” he said.
She looked very cute, but her voice was icy cold.

As he spoke, he had already taken hold of my hand.
But I didn’t move, instead, I asked, “Did Alden ask you to help me?”
“What do you think?”
Norah frowned and said, “Hurry and come with me, otherwise you won’t be able to leave!”
At this moment, several men had already gathered around.
Norah sighed, let go of my hand, and sat down on the side, not intending to leave because she also knew she couldn’t escape.
“You shouldn’t have come.”
She sighed again, “If it weren’t for you, Alden wouldn’t have to marry Serena!”
For me?
I was surprised, but before I could ask, I saw a commotion in the banquet hall.
Serena and Alden also walked towards the entrance of the banquet hall, while signaling for
everyone to stand up.
Then I saw seven or eight people walking into the banquet hall.
There were both men and women, all very young, but they had a calm and steady demeanor.
Especially the person at the forefront, who was only in his early twenties, but had a very imposing
presence.
“Corbin, you finally arrived, otherwise my engagement banquet would have been almost
meaningless.”
Serena immediately stepped forward and extended her hand to shake hands with the person in
charge.
Corbin Moyer did not shake hands with Serena, nor did he even look at her. Instead, he carefully looked at Alden before speaking, “Are you Alden?”
Alden paused for a moment and then nodded.
Corbin’s attitude softened a bit, and he said with a smile, “She hid so well, otherwise we would have known each other earlier.”
Serena thought that “she” was referring to her and wondered when she had hidden herself.
However, she didn’t think much about it and instead said to the others, “Everyone, this is Corbin
om the Moyer family in Fieldkeep. He is a legitimate prince, and the Moyer family is the biggest support for our Castlepond the Lynch family!”

The others immediately applauded with great enthusiasm; their excitement evident in their
expressions.
Serena, however, saw that I was still sitting on the couch, glaring at me angrily, and said, “You wretch, who gave you the audacity to sit down?”
Alden immediately said, “Shirley, quickly stand up!”
