Chapter 9
After I returned to my country, as soon as I walked out of the airport, Layton came to pick me up holding a bouquet.
When I was celebrating his birthday at a restaurant, I noticed that the entire restaurant was empty.
Layton only found out after asking the manager that the restaurant had already been booked by the
Logan family.
He looked at me with a guilty expression on his face and said, “Regina, I didn’t reveal your return to your country, and I don’t know how your parents found out that we were here.”
I just smiled and comforted him, “I believe you, with their financial resources, it would be easy for them to investigate about me.”
Sure enough, at that moment, my mother walked into the restaurant.
“Daughter!”
Her cry made my heart tighten, and I had an urge to cry.
Just the thought of how they treated me, my barely recovered heart sank into silence again.
She hurried over to me, and I glanced at her. Her once jet–black hair had gained quite a few white strands, and there were also many more wrinkles on her face.
She wanted to hug me, but I suddenly stepped back.
Mom stood frozen in place when she saw this scene.
Finally, she cried with a regretful look on her face, “Daughter, after a year, are you still unwilling to forgive me and your father?”
I coldly said, “I’m sorry, I was not your daughter, your beloved baby daughter was Fiona.”
“Daughter, don’t say that. She was ultimately an adopted daughter without any blood relation. have our parents‘ blood running through you, you are our biological daughter!”
I stood up and held Layton, ready to leave, when suddenly my mother knelt.
“Regina, Mom, and Dad realized our mistake. We shouldn’t have treated you like that before. Please come back, Dad doesn’t have much time left, his biggest regret is not being able to see you!”
“When you were born, we believed in fortune–tellers and were told that you would bring misfortune to us, that you wouldn’t become wealthy and successful, and that someone else would have to bear your hardships for you, otherwise you might die prematurely. That’s why we treated you that way and adopted your sister. All of this was not what we intended!”
“Fiona has already been kicked out of the house. You are now the only heir of the Logan family. As

long as you acknowledge your parents, you can inherit their estate.”
Watching her kneel and cry, telling the whole story and presenting her moving conditions, I felt no emotional response inside me.
Family is not a transaction, and I firmly refuse.
“Sorry, I was used to living a difficult life, I wasn’t very accustomed to a life of luxury. You should find someone else.”
After I left, my mother cried her heart out.
“Daughter! No matter what, you are the most beloved daughter in our hearts!”

Three years later, Layton came to a foreign country with me without hesitation. He achieved some success, and we got married and settled down overseas.
Soon, we also had our first child.
During the New Year period, when I took the children back to visit Layton’s family, he showed me a piece of domestic news on the way.
“Last month, Fiona, after being kicked out of the Logan family’s house, intended to seek revenge by visiting the hospital to see your father, pretending to repent, and secretly poisoning the water in the cup.”
After being discovered, she was arrested and died while escaping by falling from a high building.
Upon hearing this news, I felt no emotional response, as if I had heard about someone completely
unrelated.
On the evening of New Year’s Eve, Layton’s father suddenly mentioned something.
He went to the hospital to visit my father and said that my father was thin and frail, on the verge of
death.
He asked me to take my son to meet his grandfather for his sake.
Layton held my hand and said earnestly, “My father was right, how can there be deep hatred between father and daughter? The baby has never met their grandparents, so let the child go and
have a look.”
I nodded.
Over a few years, after becoming a parent, I have come to accept many things.
eading his son to the hospital, he saw his father lying on the bed. He was first shocked and then
cried like a child.

“I… I’m sorry, can you forgive me? Dad?”
I wanted to shake my head, but the baby held my hand and shook it, looking at me with an innocent face.
“Mom, was Grandpa sick? Can you forgive him?”
Mom hugged the baby and looked at me with a worried face, crying.
I fell silent for a moment and eventually nodded.
“Dad, Mom, Happy New Year.”
In the ward, joyful cries were heard.
month later, after I had taken care of my father’s funeral arrangements, the group was naturally passed on to me.
Mom said that Dad worked hard all his life and never went out to see the world. She traveled around the world alone, holding Dad’s ashes.
At the moment when I saw her off at the boarding gate, the setting sun was just right. I held my husband’s hand and our baby’s hand, letting the sun’s rays fall on us.
