Chapter 3
The next morning, I received a phone call from my boyfriend, Layton.
“Did you just live downstairs from my house?”
I quickly crawled out of bed, put on my clothes, and went downstairs.
Seeing Layton, my frozen heart finally felt a hint of warmth.
“How come you came over during the New Year period?”
When I saw Layton, he was also very happy. I led him into the house and coincidentally ran into my parents who were getting ready to go out.
But the moment they saw Layton, both of them were stunned.
Mother looked him up and down, astonished, and asked, “Daughter, is this… your classmate?”
I nodded and confessed truthfully, “Layton, my boyfriend.”
Layton respectfully called out, “Uncle, Aunt, Happy New Year.”
When I was getting water for Layton, I saw my mom mysteriously pulling my dad into the kitchen. Taking advantage of their distraction, I quietly approached.
“Markus, that guy was handsome and had a refined manner of speaking. What do you think about introducing him to Fiona?”
Dad frowned after hearing it.
“That was my daughter’s boyfriend, how could you have such thoughts?”
Mom disapproved.
“Both the palm and the back of the hand are flesh, both of them are my daughters, who he marries
doesn’t make a difference.”
“Regina was in poor health and had scars on her face. She was not a good match for that young man. I thought Fiona had a good temperament and was beautiful, and the two of them were very
compatible.”
Anyway, I liked this boy doll, and if he wanted to get married, he could only marry Fiona.
Dad was a little embarrassed, so when he came out, I quickly pretended to go get water and left.
As I walked towards Layton with a cup of water in my hand, the hand holding the cup trembled incessantly.
I don’t know if it was because of anger or because of the deep disappointment in them.

I couldn’t understand how my biological parents could snatch away my boyfriend, who had no blood relation, for a fake heiress.
At this moment, the only trace of warmth in my heart shattered.
I didn’t want to stay at home anymore, so I grabbed Layton’s hand and planned to go out to watch a
movie.
But our mother stopped us in our tracks, smiling kindly and saying, “Where are you going? Stay at home for lunch.”
I had intended to refuse, but Layton, wanting to get on good terms with my parents, happily agreed.
Today’s lunch was particularly abundant, it was the most abundant one in my memory.
During dinner, Dad suggested going fishing with Layton. When I said I wanted to accompany them, Mom said, “What’s the point of you tagging along when two grown men go fishing?”
“Daughter, you stayed at home to help your mother, it was not New Year’s, and relatives of all sizes would come over.”
I reluctantly agreed.
In the evening, I received an urgent call for help from Layton, “Regina! Come and save me! Karaoke
