The wedding would be held in three days. I had already transferred the house’s ownership to Lizbeth. All I needed to do was to pick up my grandmother from the nursing home and go to Ansel City together.
Upon arriving at the nursing home, I found my grandmother in one of her confused states. I introduced Keith to her, but the moment I finished, she forgot who he was.
Fortunately, Keith did not show any irritation or anger. He assured me of staying with my grandmother while he went to find the director to handle the discharge procedures.
My grandmother kept holding my hand tightly. She kept asking on and on about when I was getting married. Ever since my parents passed away, whether she was in a lucid or confused state, my grandmother’s greatest concern had always been me.
My uncle and I both knew that her only lingering wish was to see me married and have children.
“Grandma, I came here today to bring you to my wedding “I said softly

When my grandmother heard that I was about to get married, tears immediately fell from her cloudy eyes and she said the word “good” three times in a row with a choke–out voice.
“Joy,” she asked. “Was making the decision hard for you? So, tell me then, which one do you choose? Is it the boy from the Lawrence Family or the one from the Weston Family?
I paused for a moment before replying lightly, “It’s neither of them. Uncle chose a groom for me.”
My grandmother froze for a moment. It seemed a touch of clarity had entered her mind as she spoke with a voice full of happiness, “Ah, Joy! You’ve finally come to your senses. If you can enter the Adam Family, I’ll able to die in peace.”
Then she paused. “How do you make those two boys agree to let you marry someone else? If you don’t want to go through with this, don’t force yourself. I don’t want you to have any regrets.”
I gave her a playful smile and assured her, “They’re just my friends, Grandma. They’ll be happy for me.”
Grandma was finally at ease. She then offered me a stream of advice on married life.
When she learned that the wedding would be held in Ansel City, she fell silent for a moment.
I knew she didn’t want to leave her hometown, but neither my uncle nor I could bear to leave her alone in Torch
City
Then Grandmother took my hand and held it. She came to a decision, “Joy, call the boys to come over. Since we are leaving, I want to thank them properly. All these years…. I couldn’t imagine how lonely you would have been if it weren’t because of them accompanying you.
“My mind’s not what it used to be. Sometimes, it fails to work. I don’t remember a lot of people now. Once I leave
this world, I’m afraid….”
cat.
Hearing my grandmother’s words, I arranged for all the people she wanted to see to come for a visit, one by one.
Yet, Tom and Jeff refused to answer my calls, undoubtedly still holding a grudge over the incident with Lizbeth’s
However, seeing the hopeful expression on my grandmother’s face, I finally called Lizbeth.
As soon as the call connected, Tom’s angry voice burst through. “Joy, do you still have the nerve to call here
now? Why don’t you ask Lizbeth’s forgiveness properly? If it weren’t for your stunt of faking a marriage to scare Lizbeth away, Lily wouldn’t have been run over by a car!”
In the background, I could hear Lizbeth’s heart–wrenching sobs. Jeff’s voice came next. He was trying to comfort her, while still directing his frustration at me, “Joy, why do you have to keep causing trouble? Can’t the four of us just stay happy together like before?”
I couldn’t help but feel a bitter laugh rise in my chest. I asked him, “What exactly am I doing to cause trouble?” *You obviously know how to swim, yet you still drowned and were hospitalized. You have taken a single allergy pill, but you still landed in the hospital in anaphylaxis shock. When we forgot to take you with us to escape the fire, you turned your back on us and engaged in a fake marriage with another man
Their old philosophy used to be that, if there was a problem, they were to blame. If I did something wrong, somehow, it was still their fault.
However, ever since Lizbeth had entered the picture, they were like different people, eager to lay blame on me for even the slightest offense.
They even name the cat “Lily” as a tribute to Lizbeth.
If I had known how pretentious and snake–like Lizbeth was, I would never have saved her from drowning. It would save me from all the headaches that followed.
Feeling too weary to argue with two people who seemed to have lost all sense of reason, I simply said, “My grandmother wants to see you both If you’re willing, then come. If not, I won’t force you.”
Hearing me mention my grandmother’s name seemed to calm Tom and Jeff’s anger a little.
“How is your grandmother doing? Is she okay? We’ll come to the nursing home in half an hour.”
