Chapter 7
After attending the wedding. I called my parents.
I told them I was ready to head to the airport and would be flying to Therondia in two hours.
This decision was made after discussing it with them.
Considering how things had turned out between Darren and me, staying in this country would only hinder my ability to work effectively.
Since our family was planning to open a branch company in Therondia, it made sense to send me over. It was reassuring to have a family overseeing things.
Juan was the one who drove me to the airport. On the way, he asked, “Didn’t
you bring the USB drive with you? I thought you were planning to stir up trouble.”

Looking out the car window, I replied,
“That was my initial intention, but when I saw how happy they were, I suddenly changed my mind.”
That USB drive didn’t actually contain anything particularly important. It was just a video Darren had made himself when he proposed to me.
The doctor once said that showing him more memories from the past might slightly increase the chances of his memory returning.
Or perhaps, he would need to experience some kind of emotional shock for there to be a faint possibility of recovery.
I once held onto this hope. But after my conversation with Vivie, I let it go.
None of us were in the wrong.
If I released this video, regardless of whether Darren regained his memory or not, all three of us would be plunged into unbearable pain.

I didn’t want to see such a scene. So, I chose to let go.
After hearing this, Juan let out a heavy sigh.
“Darren… will regret it for sure.”
I didn’t respond and silently stared out
the window instead.
In the next second, I froze completely.
A large truck suddenly swerved out from the side of the road. I screamed, urging Juan to turn the wheel, but it was too late.
The out–of–control truck crashed into us in an instant. Blood filled my vision and all sounds faded away as I lost consciousness.
Juan and I were rushed into the emergency
room.
Through blurred vision, I saw my parents crying outside the emergency doors.
To my surprise, Darren was there too.
He said he suddenly felt a wave of unease,

which brought him to the hospital. Just as
he managed to steady himself, he saw Juan and me, covered in blood.
My parents were not particularly fond of him at the moment and didn’t even glance his way the entire time.
It wasn’t until those assigned to investigate uncovered the truth behind the
accident.
The person who hit me was one of Darren’s enemies. Or more accurately, an enemy of the Henley Group.
Darren had no idea how much effort I had poured into stabilizing the Henley Group over the past three years, nor how many people I had offended in the process.
Now that the whole world knew I had been cast out like a stray dog, those who wanted revenge on me naturally seized the opportunity to strike.
When my parents heard this, they could no longer hold back their anger.

Especially my father. He lost all restraint and threw a punch straight at Darren.
Darren staggered slightly, feeling dizzy from the blow, but he managed to maintain his composure.
Enduring the pain, he instructed his people to track down the culprit, promising equivalent retaliation.
My father clutched his chest in fury. He glared at him, looking ready to throw another punch. But before he could act, the doors of the emergency room swung open.
The doctor stepped out, pulling off their mask, their expression grave. “The patient’s condition is critical. Family members must prepare for the worst.”
My mother let out a scream, overwhelmed by fear and fainted on the spot.
Darren’s face turned deathly pale, a look of unbearable anguish spreading across his
features.

He clutched his head, tears suddenly streamed down his face as he fixed his gaze on the doors of the emergency room, unmoving.
The assistant who had accompanied him rushed to his side, worriedly supporting him. “Mr. Henley, are you all right?”
But Darren didn’t respond. His reddened eyes remained locked on the room, his voice trembling as he whispered,
“Cindy…”
Then, he collapsed, unconscious.
