Chapter 7
That day, I sat in the living room for a long time, thinking if it was my way my way of communicating that made Kevin despise me so much. Falways looked for faults in myself and never considered Kevin’s wrongdoings. Looking back now, it was really foolish to waste time on someone who didn’t love me. Everything I did was wrong.

my eyes, not wanting to dwell on who was right or wrong anymore. It was meaningless.
will move out of the new house as soon as possible.
Maria, don’t go, he pleaded with tears in his eyes. “Can you reconsider?”
There was nothing to reconsider. No matter what Kevin did, it wouldn’t change my decision.
Tremained silent.
“No matter what I do, it won’t change your mind about the divorce, will it?”
“Yes!” I replied firmly.
“Fine, I’ll grant you that.”
Kevin said he was indeed busy lately, but once things settled down, he would go through the divorce procedures with me. We would split the assets equally, and the house we currently lived in would be mine. fagreed and left without further disturbance.
Before leaving, Kevin gave me a substantial amount of money, enough for me to live comfortably for quite some time.
in my free time, I ate good food, drank tea, and went shopping. Without being trapped in love, I felt radiant and full of life.
One day, I fancied a piece of clothing that another girl picked up at the same time.
It was Amelia.
Let’s talk.”
flooked at her and released my grip on the clothing. “Alright.”
Amelia chose a secluded café; it was very quiet.
She asked what I wanted to drink. I said plain water. She smiled and ordered her own drink.
“This café is one that Kevin really likes. I originally wanted to bring you here to try it,” she said, her gaze falling on my water glass.
I knew she still mocked me for being unsophisticated, but I didn’t care.
“Did you bring me here just to say this?”
“Maria, Kevin doesn’t love you anymore. Can’t you let him go?”
I smiled at her. “How are you so sure that if let him go, he will marry you?”
“That’s my
business!”
“Then why are you begging me?”
Amelia choked. T’m not begging you. I’m just telling you the truth: he loves me, not you!”
“Holding on to someone who doesn’t love you is pointless.”
You’re wrong. It’s not that I don’t want to let him go; it’s that he says he can’t live without me.”
Impossible!“Amelia shouted. “How could he cling to someone like you? It must be your doing! You teamed up with his parents to pressure him not to be with me, didn’t you?”
“No wonder Kevin hasn’t been answering my calls or seeing me these past few days! You must have restricted his freedom!”
Listening to her serious accusations, I said calmly. “Do you think someone like Kevin can be restricted by me?”
“As for why he’s not answering your calls, do you want me to call him and ask?”
Amelia’s eyes reddened with hatred as she glared at me. “Where do you get your confidence from? Do you think Kevin would answer your call over mine?”
Maria, look at yourself–your taste in clothes, your family background, your education–none of it matches Kevin’s. You have nothing in common with him when it comes to lifestyle. The person who belongs by his side is me, not you!”
