Hearing me mention Mr. Blackwell, Celeste panicked.
2:35 PM
He was known for being fair, even if it meant going against his family. And he’d always disliked her for toying with Dominic while she was
abroad.
She grabbed Dominic’s sleeve, her wide eyes fixed on me.
“If you’re mad at me, fine, but isn’t it a bit cruel to upset Mr. Blackwell like this? He’s getting old.”
Dominic yanked his tie loose, irritation clouding his face.
“I didn’t tell you yesterday because I didn’t want you to overreact.
“And Celeste just apologized. What more do you want?
“Do we really need to drag my grandfather into this?”
I pointed to the divorce agreement he had thrown in the trash.
“If you don’t want this to go to your grandfather, sign the papers.”
Ending things amicably would be ideal.
Mr. Blackwell only had one grandson, and I didn’t want this to affect their relationship.

I met his gaze with indifference.
His words had no power over me anymore.
They only made him look more pathetic.
Once his angry breathing slowed, I spoke again.
you are today?”
“The agreement states I’ll leave with nothing. Not a single penny from the Blackwell family.
“Just sign it, and we can finalize the divorce.
“As for your grandfather, say whatever you like. I’ll leave it to you”
Dominic froze, clearly shocked at my resolve.
He muttered, “Print me a clean copy.”
I gestured toward the trash. “That one’s fine. Just sign it.”
Dominic clenched his jaw, grabbed the crumpled agreement, and scribbled his name without even reading it.
“You better keep your word about my grandfather!”
He stormed out pulling Celeste with him.
I picked up the discarded agreement and added my own signature to the bottom.
I was no longer Mrs. Blackwell.
Just Audrey Sutton.
For the first time in years, I was truly myself.
