she shrank back a couple of steps, looking guilty.
I shifted my eyes back to Dominic, my voice cold and detached. “What about the baby?”
The doctor had warned me the pregnancy was fragile, and the abdominal pain from the previous day had already made me uneasy.
The moment I fell from the car, I had a sinking feeling about what was coming.
“Audrey…” Dominic’s face turned ashen. His lips trembled as he tried to form a sentence but ultimately said nothing.
His silence was answer enough.
I reached for my stomach, feeling numb. The baby was gone.
Perhaps it was for the best. I hadn’t planned to keep the child, though I never imagined I would lose it this way.
“We can have another baby in the future,” Dominic said, gripping my hand tightly. His eyes were full of remorse.
But what good was that now?
The moment he shoved me, he hadn’t even remembered I was pregnant.
I pulled my hand away from his and forced a stiff smile.
“Dominic, what makes you think there’s going to be a future for us?”
“Do you remember what I told you in the car?”
I turned away, pulled the divorce agreement from my bag, and handed it to him.
“Let’s divorce.”
Dominic’s expression darkened, his hand crumpling the papers.
He didn’t even bother reading them, tossing them straight into the trash. “I won’t agree to a divorce.”
His brows furrowed tightly, and he opened his mouth to argue, but Celeste interrupted him.
“I’m sorry, but nothing happened between me and Dominic last night,” she said carefully.
“I only called him today because I was trapped by reporters and couldn’t get away.
“Please don’t misunderstand. I don’t want to come between you two.”
Her words were calculated, her voice soft and trembling.
Dominic’s face shifted. He’d told a different story when he left the house.
“I was at the office yesterday and only went to help afterward…” he stammered.
I raised a hand to stop him.
Whatever was going on between them didn’t matter to me anymore.
“It doesn’t change the fact that you pushed me out of the car and caused me to lose the baby. I’ll make sure your grandfather knows everything.”
“Whether you agree or not, this marriage is over.”
