Julian Holt, eldest son of the Holt Group, Nick’s older half–brother,
My father had been right. My engagement with Nick impacted both families‘ interests, and it wouldn’t be easy to dissolve it. But I knew one thing: this engagement had to end.
On the first day I returned, I scoured my memories for this pivotal character. High status, powerful connections, and, most importantly–still alive.
By all rights, Julian was the rightful heir to Holt Group. Everything Nick had now should have been his.
My engagement should have been with him.
But Julian’s mother had passed young, and he was left frail. Doctors had once said he wouldn’t live past 26.
Because of that, high society had treated him as a placeholder, assuming Nick would inherit everything by default.
In my last life, he managed to survive to 30, just a few years longer. Yet Julian had ambitions of his own. He hadn’t married, hadn’t had children, but still, when he died, his private accounts held nearly half of Holt Group’s market value.
Imagine what he could’ve achieved if he’d been healthy.
“Ms. Jensen, what are you playing at?” Julian’s gaze was intense.
I lifted an eyebrow and met his eyes. “Mr. Holt, I only work with clever people. Show me what you’re capable of.”
Julian’s smile widened as he studied me, then downed his glass of wine.
